Check the cooling system
At the first sign of overheating if the temperature gauge went into the red zone, but from under the hood is not pulled out a couple of clubs, including the maximum heating mode the cabin (see. "Heating (air-conditioning), and blower"). This is necessary to reduce the temperature of the coolant in the engine cooling system. Turn on the alarm, depress the clutch pedal and using the inertia of the car, try to gently move to the edge of the roadway and stop as much as possible right at the curb, and if possible - outside the roadway. Run the engine for a few minutes at normal idling speed enabled full capacity heater. A WARNING Do not stop the engine immediately! The only condition - the preservation of integrity of the cooling system. If the burst or come off the hose and formed another leak, except for liquid discharge from the surge tank cap, the engine must stop immediately! |
After stopping the engine overheated begins local overheating the coolant at the point of contact with the most heat-stressed parts of the engine and the formation of vapor lock. This phenomenon is called heat stroke. | 2. Open the hood and inspect the engine compartment. Determine where steam escapes. When viewed from the engine note the presence of coolant in the expansion tank, on the integrity of rubber hoses, radiator, thermostat. |
A WARNING Do not just open the bottle. The liquid cooling system is under pressure, with the opening of traffic jams pressure plummet, the liquid boils and splashes it can scald you. If you want to open a stopper of a broad tank on the hot engine pre throw with top thick dense cloth, and only then gently rotate the plug. |
3. Look under the dashboard on the passenger side - if there is a leak underneath or traces of coolant flowing from the heat exchanger. |
4. If the coolant leak is detected, the bursting of the hose can be temporarily restored with adhesive tape. |
HELPFUL ADVICE Particularly well suited for this purpose reinforced (usually silver), adhesive tape, which can be purchased in the automobile. |
5. Leaking radiator or heater thermostat is difficult to eliminate in place, so in this situation you need to top up the cooling system with water and when driving to closely monitor the temperature gauge periodically restoring the level of the cooling system. |
WARNINGS Prolonged use of water instead of antifreeze leads to the formation of scale in the cooling system of the engine, a deterioration of its cooling and as a result, reduce the resource. Never do not add cold water to the overheated engine. The engine should be cool to open the hood for at least 30 minutes. |
| | 6. The engine may overheat in case of a failure of the thermostat, which regulates the flow of fluid into the cooling system through the radiator or past it (to accelerate warming of the cold engine). To check the thermostat is necessary to check the engine is warm to the touch temperature of the hose connecting the thermostat to the radiator. If the hose is cold, the thermostat is faulty, there is circulation through the radiator. | 7. It is often the cause of engine overheating, the cooling system is equipped with an electric fan, a fan failure (pictured fan assembly removed from the car for clarity). Start up the engine, make sure the temperature and note whether to include the overheating engine cooling fan. |
8. If the fan does not turn on, check the condition and, if necessary, replace the relay switching the cooling fan motor in the assembly block. |
9. If you replace the fan switch does not work, check if the motor cooling fan motor. To do this, disconnect the connector to the wires from the fan wiring harness. Take two wires and supply power directly from the battery. The wires should be secured and isolated. |
WARNINGS Do not allow circuit of wires together! Pay attention to the polarity: the motor must rotate so that the fan pushes air through the radiator to the engine and the direction of the air flow generated and the ram (track) stream match. |
10. If the motor is started to work ... |
| ... 11. Check the coolant temperature sensor engine management system (see. "Replacing sensor engine management system"). Engine control unit switches the fan on the information from this sensor. If the sensor is faulty, contact a service station, since the electric fan control circuit included in the engine management system and its diagnosis requires special equipment. |
HELPFUL HINTS The fuel cap of the radiator installed two valves: inlet and outlet. Exhaust valve plays an important role in ensuring optimum temperature of the engine. It supports in the positive pressure of not less than 81,4-108,0 kPa (0,83-1,1 kg / cm 2), providing temperature increase start boiling coolant and preventing intense evaporation. Unfortunately, when jamming of the valve in the closed position when there is a significant excess of overheating overpressure [200 kPa (2 kgf / cm 2)] that may lead to rupture of the expansion tank or breakdown of one of the hoses. In turn, the jamming of the valve in the open position causes premature boiling of the coolant. Therefore, once a year, wash the fuel cap sink with running water, and there is no check valve sticking by pressing a thin screwdriver. If in doubt, replace the plug. Obviously, if the engine is overheated to remove the cork expansion tank and in time it will coincide with the action of thermal shock, the boiling of the liquid and the formation of air pockets in the cooling system is guaranteed. |
Once a year Clean the radiator cell with compressed air (for example, from a compressor), directing the stream first towards the oncoming airflow, followed by his direction to remove dirt from the surface of the heatsink, adhere to insects and road debris. So it is possible to partially restore the efficiency of the radiator.
