Replacing the brake drum
Brake drum removed for replacement if damaged or worn its surface, for the control of brakes, replace the brake pads and working cylinders.
HELPFUL ADVICE Work is done on the vehicle with the rear wheels hung (on a lift or car, set on support jack). |
You will need: a key for the wheel nuts, Phillips screwdriver blade, the blade assembly (two) caliper. 1. Turn on the set and I transmission bearings bars under the front wheels. |
2. Make sure the parking brake lever was lowered all the way down (the car disinhibited). |
3. Remove the rear wheel. |
4. Soak a gap between the drum and the hub flange easily penetrate any liquid (kerosene, WD-40, etc.). |
| | 5. Remove the retaining screw ... | 6. ... and remove the brake drum. |
| | 7. If you can not remove the drum torque arms, knock it with a hammer, using a spacer block of wood. | 8. Measure the diameter of the working surface of the caliper. If the diameter exceeds the legal limit, the drum must be replaced. |
NOTE On vehicles equipped with ABS, the maximum permissible diameter of the brake drum is 205.2 mm for vehicles without ABS - 182 mm. |
A WARNING Brake drums replace pairs (left and right simultaneously). |
9. Similarly remove and check the right brake drum. |
10. Installation remove a file former drum shoulder on the working surface of the drum formed as a result of wear. |
11. Keep the brake pads two mounting blades. |
12. Install the drum in the reverse order of removal. Pre-planting strip the rust belt hub, grease it with graphite grease or grease LSZ-15. |
13. Check ease of rotation. Slight grazing on the drum pads. On the car standing on the earth two or three times, press the brake pedal to bring the pads to the drum. |
