Check of effort on the steering wheel
Check the following: - Dimension of tires and tire pressure; - The level of liquid in a tank of the hydraulic booster; - Belt tension power steering pump. Place the vehicle on a firm, level surface, set the wheels in a straight-ahead position. Remove the airbag module.
ATTENTION Be careful when removing the module. |
Start the engine and hydraulic fluid for power steering to 50-60 ? C.
| Fig. 5.9. Measurement of force on the steering wheel
|
Measure the steering wheel effort using a torque wrench (Fig. 5.9). If the force is not correct, check the following: - The presence of air in the hydraulic power-assisted steering; - Leakage hoses and their connections; - The work of the power steering pump and the steering mechanism. Effort on the steering wheel 7.8 Nm.
NOTE For verification effort on the steering wheel compare its effort on the steering wheel of another car of the same model under the same conditions. |
Effort on the steering wheel depends on the following conditions: - The state of the road surface (dry or wet asphalt or concrete); - Condition of the tires (manufacturer, wear, tire pressure).
