Compression Test

ATTENTION
A hot engine can cause severe burns.
Be careful not to get burned when removing and installing the engine components.

Make sure that the battery is fully charged.
Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
Stop the engine and let it cool for about 10 minutes to cool the exhaust system.
Remove the fuel pump relay.
Remove the air filter assembly.
Remove the ignition coil.
Remove all spark plugs.
Measure the compression as follows.

Installing compression tester to the spark plug hole
Fig. 2.251. Installing compression tester to the spark plug hole

Set compression gauge in the spark plug hole (Fig. 2.251).
Fully open the throttle.
Turning the engine a starter measure compression.
Compression:
Standard - 1470 kPa (250 min -1);
Minimum - 1029 kPa (250 min -1);
The maximum difference between cylinders - 196.1 kPa.
Perform the first three steps for each cylinder.
If the amount of compression is less than the minimum value or compression in one cylinder differs from compression in other cylinders to 196.1 kPa or more, follow the first three bay of a small amount of engine oil into the spark plug holes.
If the compression is raised after casting of engine oil, it is possible wear or damage to the piston ring or the cylinder.
If the compression is not risen, then perhaps it is jamming valves loose fit or leakage through the valve cylinder head gasket.
In both cases nebhodim engine repair.
Install the spark plugs.
Install the ignition coil.
Install the air cleaner assembly.
Install the fuel pump relay.
