The front and rear axles, chassis and steering
Front axle and suspension general information The front axle is equipped with sump type "banjo", which is located inside the hypoid final drive assembly and fully unloaded drive shafts. Assembling differential on models with a body type Hardtop (Hardtop) and Universal (Station Wagon) contains two satellites in whole box models with bodies such as utilities (Van) (Utility) and Mini truck (Cab Chassis) used 4-satellite differential with consisting of two box halves. Assemble the front axle and suspension (and related) models of Hardtop and the Versatile Final drive ratio of all models is 4.111: 1, with the exception of the model Patrol ST and Ti with a manual transmission model 3.0 liter and Maverick XL. The gear ratio of 3.0 l models is 4.375: 1, and the models ST, XL and Ti - 3.900: 1. Assembling the ring gear with the differential set in two tapered roller bearings and radial clearance and preload is regulated by means of special screws. Pinion installed in two tapered roller bearings, the preload is determined by the selection established between shim thickness required. Planting depth pinion is adjusted by adjusting the shim, installed between the gear and the inner bearing cone. Driveshafts equipped with the outer ends of the molded constant velocity joints (CV joints) Birfilda. In case of failure of CV joint assembly is replaced with the drive shaft. The outer end of the drive shaft installed in enclosed stub axle needle roller bearing. Axial thrust is carried through the brass washer placed between SHRUS and stub axle, and the axial play adjustment is performed by adjusting the fastening of the locking ring required thickness. Knuckle pin mounted on the axle in two tapered roller bearings. Preload is accomplished by matching is established between the bearing caps and fist shims the required thickness. Drive shafts transmit its rotation through front wheel hub disables the drive. Disables the drive permits the detaching of the drive shafts from the wheel hubs, where there is no need for all-wheel drive mode. All models, except for the Nissan Patrol Ti, equipped with manual hubs disconnecting the drive. Disabling is done by rotating the selector knob. In the locked (LOCK) position friction-pinion assembly disables the drive introduced into engagement with the clutch gear, which is connected to the splined end of the drive shaft. Nissan Patrol Ti models are equipped with automatic drive off the front wheel hubs. The trip can also be duplicated by hand using a wrench. In the LOCK position automatic transmission also functions as a manual. In the AUTO position when 4WD mode is selected the rotation of the drive shaft causes the rise of the cam inside the hub assembly up the track on the inside of the brake assembly. Thus there is a displacement of the sliding splined gears fitted on the drive shaft and its introduction into engagement with the driving gear disposed inside the hub assembly. The movement of the vehicle in the opposite direction causes the immediate withdrawal of the drive disengaged until the cam lift on the opposite rail. In case of refusal of operation disables the drive should be replaced in the assembly. However, it is noted that with manual drive can be partially disassembled to implement regular maintenance procedures, in addition, it relates to a clutch gear changeable parts. In order to maintain lubrication of the components of the front axle at the desired level, it should be run on a monthly basis to carry out the vehicle at a distance of not less than 16 km included in the LOCK position drive the front wheel hubs. The front suspension can be carried out as springs and the helical springs. In the first case, the leading front axle is suspended by semi-elliptic leaf springs (springs) and is equipped with double-acting shock absorbers. Springs are mounted on rubber pads, front side is fixed by means of their earrings, back - anchor finger. Shock absorbers are installed also on rubber pads. Shock mounts underneath the support plate spring ladders, while its upper portion is attached to the chassis frame of the vehicle. The components of the front suspension spring type The front axle based on the springs and fixed them central bolt. Fixing the bridge carried by a U-shaped bolt ladders. The stabilizer is secured to the lateral stability of the front axle housing by means of two support arms equipped by rubber bushings, while its outer ends are secured by means of struts, and the rubber bushings to the arms of the chassis. In the case of spring suspension front axles posted by the longitudinal and transverse arms jet bar. Long stroke helical springs is controlled by hydraulic shock absorbers double acting. On some models, stabilizer lateral stability trailing arm connects to the chassis of the car, making it easy to drive by limiting the rocking of the body during movement. The role of the axial bearings components perform maintenance free rubber bushings, which significantly reduces suspension noise issued. In the upper part of the support coil springs mounted rubber stops the compression stroke to prevent direct contact of metal components at full compression springs. | Steering damper actuator may be mounted on the transverse reactive suspension bar and the chassis frame (see. Accompanying illustration). |
The design of the suspension on helical springs, installed as an option on models with 4.2 liter EFI bodies such as utilities (Van) and Mini-truck late years of release (since 1992), is similar to that for models of Hardtop and the Versatile. The order of the procedures described below, remains the same, except that the effort of a tightening of nuts of fastening of cross-section jet bar to the crankcase of the front axle on models of release since October 1994 is 91 ÷ 121 Nm.
