Charge and start systems



Overview

On cars Patrol / Maverick applied electrical system operating at a voltage of 12 V. The mass closed on the negative terminal of the battery. The battery is located in the engine compartment.

The system of electric car series Patrol / Maverick used alternator firm Hitachi. The advantage of the alternator is charging the battery that occurs already at engine idle speed. When checking the generator, remember that its nominal output current can be at 50 and 60 A, depending on the car model. Generator Hitachi, established on the model of 4.2 l EFI (1992 vol.) Has an output current of 70 A and is characterized by the absence of an external fan.

The generator consists of the fixed stator windings, the winding shaft (rotor) rectifier diode assembly and an integrated voltage regulator.

When flowing through the windings of the rotor of the electric current (input through the brush pressed against the sliding contact ring fixed to the shaft), it (the rotor) is induced by a magnetic field. When the rotor disposed in the stator windings is star-generated three-phase alternating current.

Since the battery charging can be done only by means of a DC power source, the generator is equipped with a diode rectifier, fixed in the cover by the contact rings of the generator.
The strength of the output current is determined by the characteristics of the generator, while the output voltage control by a special built-in regulator. Setting the built-in voltage regulator is not possible.

To start the engine, use one of two types of starters firm Hitachi. Both starter refer to the gear-type powered by 12 V, equipped with overrunning clutch (clutch Bendix), breaking the starter from the flywheel / drive disc after starting the engine.

The electromagnetic traction relay is fixed to the bracket of the front cover of a starter. The plunger of the traction relay through the lever effect on the driving gear with overrunning clutch.

When power is applied to the winding traction relay it affects the plunger drive lever, which introduces a driving gear engaged with the flywheel / drive disk at the same time completing the circuit supplying power from the battery to the field winding and the armature of the electric motor starter.

After starting the engine overrunning clutch drive gear prevents damage to the motor armature as a result of the forced rotation to high speed when the driver hesitated to releasing the ignition key.
