Check the brake system
| | 1. The reason for the loss of braking performance can be poor performance of the vacuum amplifier. To express his check, click a few times on the brake pedal with the engine off, to remove the vacuum amplifier, then hold the pedal, start up the engine. If the engine start pedal slightly lowered, the vacuum amplifier is undamaged. | 2. If the pedal remains fixed, check the integrity and reliability of the connection of the hose of the vacuum amplifier with the fitting on the intake pipe of the engine ... |
3. ... and the amplifier. Defective hose Replace or repair. If the hose is defective, replace the vacuum booster (see. "Replacement of the vacuum amplifier").
NOTE The hose of the vacuum amplifier is made in one piece with non-return valve. Check out his performance (see. "Testing the brake servo"). In case of malfunction of the check valve, replace the hose of the vacuum booster assembly. |
If braking is accompanied by throbbing and pulsating brake pedal, you should first check the status of the front disc brake. | | 4. With the vehicle on a jack, turn the front wheels, remove and inspect the brake discs. The thickness of the brake disc should be less than 19.0 mm, the surface of the disk - even and smooth on both sides. If the surface of the disc in places covered with rust, which usually happens after a long parking lot with unseasoned brakes, try to clean work surface with fine emery cloth. If this procedure does not work, it will have to pay in grinding wheels or replaced. | 5. Check the mobility of the brake piston. To do this, try to budge the piston with a screwdriver. If the piston fails to move, then it is stuck in the brake cylinder. |
A WARNING Wedging the piston cylinder leads to a constant braking of the appropriate wheels when the pedal is released and the vehicle skidding while braking. |
If braking is accompanied by spurts of the car and creaking near the rear wheels, and when heavy braking occurs skid rear of the car, check the drum rear brakes. 6. With the vehicle on a jack, in turn, remove the rear wheels, remove the brake drums (see. "Removing and installing the brake drum") and measure the diameter of their working surfaces. The inner diameter of the drum should be less than 201.0 mm, the working surface of the drum - flat and smooth without scratches annular clearly visible and roundness (ovality should be not more than 0.5 mm, it can be defined unevenly worn on the working surface of the drum). If the inside diameter of the drum is larger than allowed, the risks are very deep ring clearly visible or uneven wear of the working surface, the drum will have to be replaced.
NOTE The parking brake actuates the rear brakes cables connecting the parking brake lever and control mechanisms brake pads. Many drivers try as little as possible to use the parking brake to extend his "life", and achieve the opposite result. If you do not use the parking brake cable cover in mud and stagnant moisture, ropes overgrown rust cease to move and break off. So use the parking brake in all cases, when you need it, but do not forget from time to time adjust its drive (see. "Adjusting parking brake"). |
