Motor oil
When choosing a motor oil in the first place should be guided by the recommendations and requirements of the manufacturer's quality and manufacturer of engine oil. Modern motor oils are composed of base oils and additives preset range, are divided into two basic types: - Mineral (obtained from petroleum distillation) - their viscosity is strongly temperature dependent. To stabilize properties of various additives are used, which, in turn, quickly disintegrate due to the high mechanical and thermal loads, reducing the life of the oil; - Synthetic (obtained by chemical synthesis) - have high homogeneity and stability properties. Are more liquid in the cold and more dense in the heat. Less combusted in the engine, produce less fat, have a longer service life.
HELPFUL HINTS Synthetic oils do not destroy the seals of the engine, but using them may cause leaks through the worn seals due to the greater strength of synthetic oils compared to mineral. The service life of synthetic oils are only slightly larger than the mineral. Quick darkening of oil indicates its good cleaning properties and contaminated the lubrication system. |
An intermediate position is occupied by the so-called semi-synthetic oils. They are manufactured on the basis of mineral additives with synthetic components, so the quality approaching synthetic oils, but they are much cheaper. One of the main properties of motor oils - its viscosity, which determines the operating temperature range of engine oil. At low ambient temperature the viscosity of engine oil should be low to allow start-up of the engine and engine oil flow to its peers. At high temperature, the engine oil should be more viscous to maintain lubrication system oil pressure. As the value of the viscosity motor oils are divided into three types: - Winter - due to the low viscosity starts the motor and grease the basic units at negative ambient air temperature; - Summer - due to the high viscosity provide lubrication of the engine parts at high ambient temperatures; - All season - at low ambient temperature have a viscosity of winter oil and high - viscosity oils summer.
A WARNING It is strictly prohibited to use the following motor oils: - Are not intended for gasoline car engines; - With improper performance; - Do not comply with the season on the viscosity (classifications SAE). |
