Starting with an auxiliary battery
Terminals to start from the auxiliary power
| 1 - negative pole (-) | 2 - positive (+) |
In the case of battery discharge, you can start the engine using the auxiliary cables and the battery of another vehicle.
There is a risk of chemical burns!
Do not lean over the battery during start-up with the help of the auxiliary battery. There is a danger of explosion!
Do not use open flame, do not smoke, avoid sparks near the battery.
When handling the battery, observe the safety precautions (Section Check and charge the battery). Contacts for connecting wires to start the engine using the auxiliary battery are located in the engine compartment on the passenger side front bulkhead.
The positive pole (+) is under a protective cover. Do not attempt to start the engine if the battery is frozen. First, it should be thawed.
Use auxiliary cables of sufficient cross-section with isolated pole clamps.
Cars must not touch.
Turn off all electrical consumers.
First, connect the positive terminal to the cable.
The engine of another car should idle.
Connect the negative poles of the auxiliary cable.
Start the engine.
If the engine is running, switch on electrical consumers such as the fan, but not the light!
Remove the cables first from the negative and then the positive pole. Starting with an auxiliary battery is possible if the engine is cold and the catalytic converter has cooled down. It should, however, avoid repeated and lengthy starting attempts.
It is not allowed to start the engine with a device for rapid battery charging.
Charging the battery in Chapter Routine maintenance.
