Removal, check and installation of the oil pump

On engines GA14DE and GA16DE first need to remove the cylinder head and camshaft drive chain, as described in Section. "The mechanism of timing."
The engine SR20DE access to the oil pump, remove the cover of timing, then the oil pump cover.

Verification of clearances in the oil pump motor
Fig. 2.75. Verification of clearances in the oil pump motor: A - Check the clearance between the outer diameter of the pinion bore and the pump housing; B - Check the gap between the teeth of the driving and driven gears; In - check the clearance between the teeth of the driven gear and the separating sickle; D - Check the gap between the ends of the gear and the plane of the cover

Remove the gears. Remove the oil pressure relief valve, remove the valve and spring. Inspect the removed parts, they should not be signs of wear or other damage. Make sure there are no burrs on the gears and pump body. Install pinion front cover timing. Check with a set of probes gaps in the oil pump (Fig. 2.75).
The gaps should be, mm:
between the outer surface of the driving gear and the pump housing 0,11-0,20
between the gear teeth and the plane of the cover 0,05-0,11
between the end of the driven gear and the plane of the cover 0.05-0.09
For larger gaps should be replaced by a gear or drive the oil pump cover.
Dismantle the overflow valve, which turn out its plug, remove the spring and the ball.
In detail there should be signs of wear and corrosion. When assembling the valve, replace the gasket.
Reassembly is effected in reverse order to dismantling. Replace the Phillips head screws, if the slots were damaged. When assembling all the parts of the pump, lubricate with engine oil.
