Maintenance of the cylinder head

Refitting

To perform the procedures described below require the following special equipment: a tool for compressing the valve springs, and a micrometer measuring flatness (rib steel ruler).

Withdrawal

The cylinder head, in principle, can be removed in gathering with the inlet pipeline and a final collector, however, due to the significant weight and size characteristics of such assemblage composers of the given Management recommend to stick to the order set forth below of the procedure.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect the negative wire from the battery.
  2. Take care of protection from damage paintwork around the engine compartment.
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4. Remove the rocker arm assembly with the push rod, the intake manifold and exhaust manifold.
  5. Loosen the hose clamps and disconnect the hoses, heating and cooling systems that prevent the removal of the cylinder head.
  6. Give the adjusting bolt bracket generator to the cylinder head.

To prevent deformation of the cylinder head bolts do not give up its attachment until the engine has thoroughly cooled.

  1. Give the front cylinder head bolts adjacent to the water pump (see. Accompanying illustration).
  1. Gradually loosen head bolts, acting in the reverse order shown in the accompanying illustration. When removing the screws, take care not to drop the puck into the engine with bolt number 23.
Order of a tightening of bolts of the cylinder head - the front bolts are not visible and should be tightened after the completion of a tightening key.
  1. With the help of an assistant, remove the cylinder head from the engine compartment. Try not accidentally damage the mating surfaces.

Setting

Installation is in the reverse order.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Make sure of absoluteness of cleanliness of interfaced surfaces of the block and cylinder head, - they must not remain burrs, scoring, and traces of the old gasket material.
  1. Check cylinder head for deformation, which measure the value of its flatness and diagonally along the mating surface (use the flatness meter (edge of a steel ruler) and feeler blade type - see. Accompanying illustration). If signs of deformation should be pierced head, bringing it into compliance with state regulatory requirements (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual) or replaced.
  1. Likewise, check the flatness of the mating surface of the cylinder. Perform the necessary repairs (groove), or replace the unit.
  2. Place a new head gasket on the engine block, having tracked correctness of combination of its holes with the guide pins and holes in the operating unit.
  3. Install the cylinder head on the block, lightly oil the threads of bolts and washers and screw fasteners.

Goals should be set to bevel bolt heads.

  1. Freely screw bolts of the front of the head.
  2. Tighten the main mounting bolts in the order shown in the illustration as follows:
    1. In the first stage tighten bolts (main) with a force of 29 Nm;
    2. Then tighten them with 78 Nm of torque;
    3. Fully loosen the bolts in the reverse order;
    4. Again tighten them with a force of 29 Nm;
    5. Tighten bolts to 64 Nm ÷ 74, or (preferably) by a protractor for another 69 ? ÷ 70 ?.
  3. Tighten front head bolt with a force 6.4 ÷ 7.5 Nm.
  4. Replace the rocker arm assembly and pushrods and the intake manifold and exhaust manifold.
  5. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Dismantling of a head of cylinders

Overhaul the cylinder head requires the use of special equipment. Purchase or lease of such equipment are usually uneconomical for repair only one head. In view of the above, it would be appropriate to entrust the overhaul of cylinder heads skilled workshop of dealer branch of the manufacturer of the vehicle or the service station. Some branded shops can be purchased on the exchange through a removable head recovery that can significantly reduce the downtime of the vehicle.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the cylinder head from the engine.
  2. Remove the cover of the thermostat from the cylinder head, remove the thermostat and remove the traces of the old gasket material from the mating surfaces.
  3. Before removing valves, remove carbon deposits from the combustion chambers. This will minimize the risk of damage to valves and seats.
  1. Place the cylinder head on the side and with a special tool compress the spring of the first valve (see. Accompanying illustration).
  1. Remove the valve plate springs crackers cutting lock (components of the valve are shown on an accompanying illustration).
1 - crackers
2 - plate valve springs
3 - windings with a short pitch
4 - spring
5 - Seat
6 - stem seals
7 - an inlet valve
8 - exhaust valve
  1. Release the tool and remove the spring plate, springs and spring seat.
  2. With Needle remove visible burrs and rough edges with grooves for installation of crackers of the cutting lock on the valve stem, and then remove the valve body from the cylinder head.
  3. Acting on this scheme, remove any remaining valves, putting them in an orderly bound to the installation site.

For orderly storage of valves perfect rack with twelve numbered apertures in which and should stick valve stem in order to install them in the head.

  1. Carefully hooking, remove the valve stem from the valve stem seals. Discard them.

Cleaning and checking the status of the head and its components

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Thoroughly clean and cull defective valves (with burnout, cracks and deformation of the rods).
  2. Carefully remove accumulated sediment from the receiving and discharge ports of the head, valve stems and guides. Try not to damage interfaced surfaces.
  3. Clean the mating surface of the head, channels the water jacket, and a support slot thermostat setting.
  4. Wash the cylinder head in kerosene, wash water from a hose, and dry thoroughly to prevent the development of corrosion.
  1. Insert each valve into its guide sleeve. Lift the valve so that the end of his rod acted on 30 mm. Fix the dial gauge so that it rests on the plunger forming surface of the shank of the valve stem (see. Accompanying illustration).
  1. Shake the valve back and forth parallel to the plane of the rocker. If the meter will record the course of more than 0.2 mm, measure the inner diameter of the guide sleeve and the outer diameter of the valve stem using a micrometer (see. Accompanying illustration). Compare your results with the regulatory requirements (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of the Guide), if necessary, replace worn components. Repeat the procedure for all valves.

As for the removal and installation guides need to head to warm to a temperature of 150 ? ÷ 160 ? C, and the sleeve after installation themselves intelligently deploy the implementation of this work, it is desirable to entrust the specialist.

  1. Replace all spherical caps (cork clutch release water jacket) cylinder heads, perfect condition, which is doubtful.
  2. Check the flatness of the mating surfaces of the head and the cylinder block (see. Subsection Removal and installation). If necessary, replace or pierce the surface beyond repair components.
  3. Check the operation of the thermostat.

Restoring Surface plates and valve seats

This work should be performed by a qualified mechanic, it has at its disposal special tools. The drafters of the Guidelines recommend instruct its experts workshop service centers.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Machined plate of each of the valves under the regulations specified angle (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual). If necessary, grind off the valve stem on the plane, but do not remove more than 0.2 mm material. If the width of the cylindrical surface of the forming plate (shoulder) is out of the bottom margin, the valve must be replaced.
1 - bevel seat
2 - band valve disc
3 - rod
4 - a groove cutting lock crackers
  1. Check the straightness of the valve stem. In case of excessive bending and replace the valve.
  2. When bore valve seats required to be equipped with a special cutter guide. As a result, the processing must be obtained smooth indissoluble working facet.
  3. Excessively worn seat must be replaced.
  4. Upon completion of processing of saddles width of their working facets should meet the regulatory requirements that are different for intake and exhaust valves (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual).
  5. To check the sophistication of the contact grease a working surface of the valve disc Prussian blue, and then set the valve head and rotate, pressed to the saddle. After separation of the valve plate on a working facet of the saddle should be formed uniform indissoluble ring, coaxial with the axis of the saddle. Check the quality of treatment in the same way all the valves / saddles.

Checking the valve springs

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Measure the free length of the valve springs. Compare your results with the regulatory requirements (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual).
  2. Check spring for signs of deformation.
  3. If special diagnostic tool at hand is not available, compare the length of loaded spring to that of a new spring. For this spring Abut ends of each other, paving between the flat plate or the washer, then tighten the assembly in a vice. After information about the vise jaws 13 mm length serviceable spring should not differ from the new length of more than 5%. If necessary, replace the spring.

Assembling the cylinder head

Installation is the reverse order of removal.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Before assembly, make sure of absoluteness of cleanliness of ports and valve seats - on their surfaces shall not bear any traces of extraneous materials. Lightly oil the valve guides and install the saddle springs.
  2. With the help of a suitable length of the tube plant in the guides stem seals the valve stem. Planting depth should be observed as accurately as possible (see. Accompanying illustration).
1 - stem seal
2 - guide bush
3 - spring seat
4 - cylinder head
  1. Coat the valve stems and enter them in the appropriate guides.
  2. Put a spring in the valve stem and bowl, making sure the face turned to the spring coils with the truncated step in the direction of the head. Squeeze the assembly with a special tool.
  3. Set in the groove on the rod crackers cutting lock and release tools. Slightly Tap the end of the rod with a hammer to shrink the crackers in the groove.
