Service assembly steering

To perform the procedures described below require the following special tools: a stripper or a bipod and end spanner 41 mm (to remove the mechanism); removable head type TORX E10 (for disassembly mechanism); sensing torque wrench and transition nozzle for preload adjustment (to build).

Models of early years of release (until 1992)

Adjustment

Do not attempt to carry out the adjustment of the steering mechanism without sensing a torque wrench - the result can be a reduction in drivability and reduce the service life of components of the steering mechanism.

Refitting

Withdrawal

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Install the front wheels and the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.
  2. Quick-drying paint mark position of flexible coupling with respect to the worm shaft of the steering mechanism. Remove the pinch bolt.
  1. Give a nut fry to sectoral steering shaft, remove the washer. Mark the position of the steering pitman arm with respect to sectoral shaft (see. Accompanying illustration). Using a special puller to remove the fry sector shaft.
  1. Give hollow bolts to assemble the steering mechanism of hydraulic lines. Install a drain line to catch any fluid.
  2. Give nuts and bolts to the steering gear. Remove the steering gear assembly from the vehicle.

Setting

Installation is in the reverse order.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Ensure alignment of all put in the course of dismantling the landing labels.
  2. Install the nuts and bolts of the steering mechanism assembly. Tighten the fasteners to the torque of 84 ÷ 96 Nm.
  3. Replace the copper sealing washers to choke connectors and tighten the hollow bolt.
  4. Tighten the nut fry steering with an effort of 235 ÷ 265 Nm.
  5. Fill with fresh liquid into the tank and bleed the hydraulic system.

Dismantling

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the steering gear assembly from the vehicle.
  2. Give the worm shaft in the middle (straight) position, which rotate it to 2.14 turns (two complete turns, plus 50 ?). Back from the stop.
  3. Give cover bolts sector shaft and a hammer with soft brisk beat out a shaft of gear for about 20 mm, then remove it by hand.

After removing the sector shaft not to move the booster piston or worm shaft.

  1. Gently prying, remove the boot from the end of gear from the pitman arm. Discard the boot.
  2. Remove the retaining ring and remove the large spacer sleeve, gently lift it appropriate lever.
  3. Carefully remove the seal from the crankcase steering - not to scratch the sealing surface lever housing.
  4. The key type TORX E10 give bolts of fastening the back cover.
  5. Carefully remove the back cover, together with the intensifier piston and worm shaft to the gear casing. Try to avoid the displacement components in order to avoid falling out of circulation balls.

Vehicle manufacturers insist that in case of excess clearance between the piston and the back cover of magnitude of 35 mm were replaced piston assembly with a worm shaft.

  1. Check the condition of roller bearings, worm shaft, sector shaft and worm shaft assembly from the intensifier piston. Replace excessively worn or damaged components.

Assembly

Installation is the reverse order of removal.

Replacement of sealing rings, spacer sleeves, seals, retaining rings and washers should be made mandatory every time the dismantling of the steering mechanism. This means that to run the assembly mechanism should buy a special remnabor containing all the necessary replacement parts.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Before assembly, lubricate all the components of the hydraulic fluid.
  2. Grease suitable sealant new oil seal and install the back cover, and put him into the crankcase steering using a piece of pipe, based on the outer perimeter of the gland. Be sure to turn the main oil seal lips turned to the intensifier piston.
  3. Set the back cover of the new O-rings and Teflon. For temporary fixing ring with petroleum jelly grease.
  4. Set of gear worm shaft, booster piston and the back cover. Try not to damage the Teflon ring on the end of the piston. Make sure that all O-rings have been installed in its place.
  5. Screw the rear cover bolts and tighten them in diagonal order in two or three stages to a final torque 26 ÷ 32 Nm.

The amplifier piston must be in the normal position and not be skewed.

  1. Lubricate the new packing sector shaft outside of the perimeter of a suitable sealant, then plant it is perpendicular to the crankcase steering using a piece of pipe, which must rest on the outer edge of the gland. Moderately lubricate the flexible gland with petroleum jelly.
  2. Set of gear most remote plug and secure it with a retaining ring. Make sure that the snap ring turned turned rounded edge to the gland.

On some models, the gland side with a rounded edge is marked with an identification mark in the form of letters R.

  1. Set of gear new Bellow, planted it with the pipe section abuts against the outer edge of the boot. Moderately grease sponge anther petroleum jelly.
  1. Check the sector shaft axial clearance (see. Accompanying illustration), if necessary, make the adjustment:
    1. Pinch the sector shaft in a vice with soft sponges.
    2. Set the dial gauge plunger to the end of the adjustment screw, and then move the screw up and down the full length of its course and consider readings. The nominal value of the sector shaft axial clearance is 0.01 ÷ 1.05 mm.
    3. If necessary, remove from the adjusting screw shaft and install new shims the required thickness. If you can not achieve the nominal value of the axial backlash, replace the adjusting screw.
  1. Replace the cover of the new sector shaft seal ring. Moderately lubricate it with petroleum jelly. With a sharp tool remove the small O-ring with the adjusting screw lock nut sector shaft. Using a blunt instrument, install a new O-ring, after brushing it with petroleum jelly.
  2. Rotate the worm shaft to drive the booster piston in the straight-ahead position.
  3. Wrap the tape slots sector shaft.
  4. Turn the booster piston teeth up to the top of the steering box at an angle of about 10 ? ÷ 15 ? to guarantee free installation sector shaft.
  5. Set the housing sector shaft. Make sure that the booster piston remains in a central position.
  6. Screw cap bolts sector shaft and tighten them in diagonal order in two or three stages to a final torque 26 ÷ 32 Nm.
  1. Hold the steering assembly in a vise around under normal installation and check the angle of the force of its rotation.
    1. Several times the worm shaft, turn from lock to lock to shrink the components of the steering mechanism

If the rotation of the worm shaft there are jerks and biting point, accordingly Adjust the position of the adjusting screw.

    1. With sensitive torque wrench with an appropriate nozzle to measure the force rotation of the worm shaft. The measurement is made of a straight shaft position. The nominal value of 0.59 ÷ 1.34 Nm.

If a suitable nozzle at hand is not available, you can wrap the end of the shaft with tape and use the tight end shrinkdown polygonal head.

    1. Repeat checks after turning worm shaft 360 ? from the center position. At this time, the nominal value is 0.2 to 0.4 Nm ÷ smaller than given above.
    2. If the force turning worm shaft falls within a specified value, tighten the lock nut with a force of 34 ÷ 40 Nm while holding adjusting screw stationary.
    3. When the output shaft rotation forces of tolerance, adjust accordingly the position of the adjusting screw. If achieve normal contact force fails, the steering assembly must be replaced.
  1. Establish assemblage of the steering mechanism on the car.

Models of late years of release (since 1992)

The above order of execution procedures remain in force, with the following remarks:

  1. From the assembly removed Bellow steering sector shaft, the retaining ring and the remote plug. Also removed the O-ring lock nut of the adjusting screw and washer.
  2. Between the outer gland sector shaft and roller bearing in the crankcase of an additional flexible packing. This gland must be planted equipped groove side of the bearing.
  3. The flexible gland is also installed on the cover of sector shaft. Equipped with the groove side facing the bearing.
