Radial and lateral palpation of wheels and tires

Radial and lateral runout occurs because of disk rotation and inaccurate tire.
100 percent accuracy of rotation is not possible due to technical features.
Therefore, a manufacturer of these components enables a clearly defined tolerance.
If the disc is mounted and the tire at a disadvantage, it may cause exceeding the maximum allowable tolerance drive bus.
Table 4.3 shows the maximum tolerances for disk installed tire.
Check of radial and lateral palpation of a disk with the tire by using a dial gauge for tires VAG 1435

Check lateral runout
Pre-tighten the dial gauge for tires about 2 mm.

Check lateral runout
Fig. 4.15. Check lateral runout

Place the indicator to the sidewall of the tire (Fig. 4.15).
Slowly roll the wheel.
Record the minimum and maximum deflection.

NOTE
If the difference is greater than 1.3 mm, the lateral runout is considered to be exceeded.
In this case, it can be reduced by minimization.
Deflection indicator because of the small irregularities on the tires should not be taken into account.

Checking the radial runout

Checking the radial runout
Fig. 4.16. Checking the radial runout

Pre-tighten the dial gauge for tires about 2 mm (Fig. 4.16).
Place the indicator to the tread of the tire.
Slowly roll the wheel.
Record the minimum and maximum deflection.

NOTE
If the difference is greater than 1 mm, the radial runout is considered to be exceeded.
In this case, it can be reduced by minimizing

Checking the radial and lateral runout

The scheme of check radial and lateral palpation
Fig. 4.17. The scheme of check radial and lateral palpation

Place the wheel on the balancing machine.
Use samorazzhimayuschiysya collet adapter for balancing stands VAS 5271.
Pre-tighten the dial gauge for tires about 2 mm.
Slowly roll the wheel.
Record the minimum and maximum deflection.
S - Lateral runout.
H - Radial run.
Compare the value obtained with the nominal parameters in Table 4.4.

NOTE
Deflection indicator because of the small irregularities on the tires should not be taken into account.

NOTE
If the measured value exceeds the standard, the normal ride will not be achieved.
