Replacing brake fluid
It is recommended to change the brake fluid after 45 000 km or once in two years. If the brakes are used with a heavy load, for example when driving in hilly terrain, as well as in tropical climates with high humidity, it is necessary to change the brake fluid once a year. Brake fluid is hygroscopic, ie It has property to absorb water molecules from the air. Absorption occurs via the brake hose and the fluid reservoir, respectively made of rubber or plastic, which are somewhat permeable to air molecules. Increasing the water content of the brake fluid leads to a significant reduction in the boiling temperature of the brake fluid, as well as corrosion of the brake system. The result is damage to the braking system and its functioning is considerably degraded.
NOTE You can use only the original brake fluid Volvo's marking DOT 4+ (minimum). You can not use the old brake fluid again. Brake fluid should be stored in the original packaging, tightly closed. |
Preparing for replacement fluid is similar to preparation for pumping the brake system. Next, we must act in this order: - Remove the cap from the drain fitting and connect a transparent hose drain capacitance; - Unscrew the nozzle about one turn; - Raise the pressure in the brake system with the help of a special device; - Drain 0,2-0,2 liters of brake fluid; - Close the drain fitting and disconnect the hose; - Put the protective cap. Pumping and fluid replacement in the following order: - The right rear wheel; - The left rear wheel; - The front right wheel; - The left front wheel. After replacing the brake fluid brake system check is required.
