Start the engine from an external source
If the battery for some reason, is low, you can use a spare fully charged battery to start the engine or take current from the battery of another vehicle ("Booster"). To avoid the risk of sparks, always check the reliability of the mounting clamps. To avoid the risk of explosion when the car is started, "Booster" subject to the following rules: - Check that the battery, from which you take the current, a 12-volt battery; - If you use the changeover wires are connected to another car, stop the engine of another car and check what your other car and not touch each other;
| Fig. 2.47. Start the engine of a vehicle from an external source (see reference numerals. Text): A - the vehicle battery of the donor; B - the vehicle battery, the engine to be started

- First connect the positive terminal (red wire or the battery has been marked with "+") of the two batteries using red rocker wire 1 and 2 (Fig. 2.47); - On the battery of another car clipped black tumbler wire on the negative terminal are marked in blue, the letter ?N?, or a "-" (3);
WARNINGS Remember that the batteries and, in particular, alien battery, which is made from the start, emit hydrogen gas is explosive. The only spark that may arise due to incorrect connection of the battery - it is all that is required for an explosion of the batteries. The battery is filled with sulfuric acid, which can cause severe burns. If acid gets into the eyes, skin or clothing, wash it with plenty of water. In case of eye immediately seek medical attention. The battery contains an acid which is toxic and causes active corrosion. Therefore, it is extremely important when replacing the battery, broken, take it to a special collection point. |
- Connect the other end of the black cable to a suitable point of the motor housing of your car as far away from your own battery for this purpose can be used, for example, one of the motor lifting lugs - 4 on the chart; - Start the engine of another car, run the engine for 1 minute at speed about 1500 min-1, and then leave it at idle speed; - Start the engine of the car with the discharged battery.
A WARNING Do not touch the changeover of wires or connections during the start-up of engines (to avoid the risk of sparks) and do not lean over any of the batteries. |
- After starting the car engine, remove the wire clamps changeover in the reverse order to that described above.
