Adjustment of a backlash in a steering mechanism



If the gap between the pinion and rack in the steering mechanism is increased, when the vehicle steering produces a knock. In addition, the steering wheel has an increased free stroke, making it difficult to drive the car. In the complete absence of the gap (steering to "pull") is deteriorating self-stabilization steering on straight (the car constantly takes in any direction, the driver has to constantly "taxi").
The adjustment is carried out at the front wheels, set in the straight.

NOTE
Power steering gear and adjusted without the same techniques.

You will need: the key "26" special key "50".
1. For convenience, remove the vacuum brake booster (see. "Replacing the brake booster"), because it makes it difficult to access the adjustment assembly of the steering mechanism.

2. Loosen the lock nut 6 (Fig. 8.3) and the adjusting screw cap 5 until a tangible increase in effort.
3. Remove the stopper on 30-40 ?� and check the ease of movement of the rack when the steering wheel from lock to lock.
4. Hold the plug from turning the adjustment, tighten the lock nut to 70 N ?� m.
5. Replace the brake servo and check the adjustment on the go. If necessary, repeat the adjustment.
