Automatic Transmission

On some models in the Sprinter can be mounted four-speed automatic gearbox type W 4 A 028. Between the CP and the engine is a torque converter that transmits torque from the engine to the wheels through a paddle in it circulating working fluid. When the motor connected thereto impeller converts torque into hydraulic energy to the working fluid (ATF). The turbine is attached to a drive shaft of the transmission, converts the energy back into torque. The reactor is located between the pump and the turbine directs the fluid back to the impeller. The gears of the planetary gear gearbox are permanently engaged, and while the engine working fluid tends to make them move, and with them, the transmission and the wheels so that the car can move slowly. Therefore, idling is necessary to keep the brake pedal or set the parking brake. A gear change takes place in the automatic gearbox by connecting various gears by action clutches and band brakes with hydraulically driven. During the drive responds separate gearbox control system, the corresponding signals depending on the position of the accelerator pedal, and accordingly, the engine speed of the engine. Description of the functions of the automatic gearbox below.
If the selector is in the manual position D, with incomplete accelerator pedal overdrive is activated as soon as possible. The car accelerates slowly, which saves fuel and provides smooth movement. In position D involving all transmission, this mode is used most often.
In positions 2 and 3, respectively, the switching occurs just before the second or third gear. These modes should be selected when the climbs when additional engine power. When you turn these modes on the slopes, such as the need for engine braking, automatic downshifting. In order not to overload the motor, follow the speed.
In the P (parking) and R (Reverse) only move the lever on the vehicle is stationary. Otherwise, the possibility of abrupt leaps, wear parts manual.
Regulation N is neutral. The car can thus roll and tow (including data following recommendations for towing and pushing the engine start-up).
In the Kickdown (throttle down) switching occurs when loosening almost to the maximum speed. If necessary, turn on, and a reduction gear for maximum acceleration of the vehicle. To switch up mode Kickdown in the hydraulic gearbox mounted solenoid valve.

Note
When the downshift manually (inhibitory switch) you must follow the indications of the tachometer. If the engine is switched on too early will develop too high a speed, the pistons may be faced with valves and bend them.
