Removal of the power unit

Disconnect the battery. Place the vehicle on a lift. Relieve the pressure in the fuel system, which relays remove the fuel pump, start up the engine and let it run until it stops. Drain the cooling system. Drain the oil from the gearbox.

If the engine has to be disassembled, then drain the oil from the engine and remove the oil filter. Remove the radiator with pipes and cooling fan, leaving the expansion tank.

Remove the generator and disconnect the wires from the starter. Remove the power steering pump and, without disconnecting the hoses hang it inside the engine compartment.

Remove the front wheels. Remove the protective shields from the bottom of the car. Remove hood. Remove the air filter. Disconnect the fuel hose, and drain the fuel from the fuel line, pre-pinching their clips.

Shut off all openings to prevent contamination entering the food system. Disconnect the throttle cable, disconnect the electrical connectors on the throttle body, intake manifold and auxiliary devices. Remove the wires from the manifold and cylinder head. Disconnect vacuum hoses, nozzles cooling system and all other ventilation hoses from the manifold and associated valve. Remove the mounting brackets of the intake manifold and remove the front exhaust pipe. Release the clamps and disconnect the hoses, heater and other coolant hoses from the engine, pre-remember or write down their position. For vehicles with air conditioning, remove the bolts and remove the compressor from the engine without disconnecting from it pipelines. Tie compressor wire elements of the car body in order to avoid stress on the pipes after removing the engine. Disconnect the electrical connectors of the distributor, ignition coil and power transistor unit. Free bundle of wires from the bracket and pull the wire away from the cylinder head. Remove the front wheel drive shaft and the clutch cable from the transmission. Disconnect from a transmission connecting rod, rod drive gear, a flexible cushion the speedometer and electrical connectors. Slings and lift the power unit. Remove the mount fixing the power unit (Fig. 2.1).

Make sure that the engine and disconnect the electrical wires and auxiliary units, before starting to dismantle the power unit.

Make sure that the connecting rod and the rod drive gear secured so as not to damage them when removing the power unit. Install the transmission jack or pallet truck under the power unit, lower and remove it from under the car.

This operation should be carried out two people, as may be necessary to slightly tilt the power unit so that it is not caught on the body panels of the vehicle.

If necessary, disconnect the gearbox from the engine, set the power unit on the wooden blocks or place on the bench. Remove the screws and remove the starter from gearbox. Make sure that the engine and transmission are secure. Remove the bolts transmission to the engine, pre-remember or write down the position of the bolts and brackets. Carefully separate the transmission from the engine. Make sure that the gearbox is not hanging on the input shaft. If possible, remove the dowel pins from the gearbox, and save them.
