Check and adjust clearance in the valve mechanism
Warm up the engine to operating temperature. Remove the cylinder head cover (see. Above). Remove the spark plugs. Establish the piston of 1st cylinder at TDC compression stroke (the mark on the crankshaft pulley must be opposite the mark on the engine block). Check with a set of probes gaps between the cams of camshafts and shims in the drive of the intake valves of the 1st and 2nd cylinders, then the exhaust valves of the 1st and 3rd cylinders. Rotate the crankshaft one revolution and set the mark on the pulley against the mark on the cylinder block. In this position, the crankshaft, check clearances in the mechanism driving the intake valves of the 3rd and 4th cylinders and exhaust valves of the 2nd and 4th cylinders. Record the measured gaps and compare them with the recommended clearances. Nominal clearance on hot engine, mm: for intake valves 0,32-0,40 exhaust valves 0,37-0,45 If you deviate from the nominal clearances, adjust. Clearance adjustment is made on a cold engine. To change the clearances apply shims, which are produced with a thickness of 2.00 to 2.98 mm through each 0,02 mm.

To replace the use of shims fit Nissan RV and RV 10115120 10115110 (Fig. 2.35). Rotate the crankshaft and install the valve operating cams controlled cylinder upwards. Then squeeze the plunger adjustment special tool and remove the magnet shim. Measure and record the thickness of the washer. Determine the thickness of the washer to be set according to the following formula: the thickness of the shim installed = shim thickness excavated + measured clearance - the nominal gap. Select shim thickness of which corresponds to the calculated value. If there is no washer design thickness, use the thick washer closest to the settlement. Apply engine oil to a new thrust washer and install it on the pusher marked down. Remove the adaptation for compression of a pusher. Make adjustments likewise other valves. Again, check the clearances. Replace the cylinder head cover, replacing it with a pre-seal. Follow the remaining assembly operations in the reverse order of removal. Check the operation of the engine.
