The general information and preparatory operations
general information | This chapter describes the most common and important procedures for maintenance and repair of engines, with the exception, requiring special skills and tools, such as procedures for engine overhaul - the work to the service specialist. |
Considered cars are equipped with 4-cylinder petrol engines in volume of 1.0, 1.2 or 1.4 liters. Engines are designed DOHC (with those at the top of the two camshafts and two valves per cylinder). But there are 2 piston compression and one oil ring. The crankshaft is located in five main bearings. The cylinder head is secured to the bolts. Two camshafts are placed in the cylinder head and valve via rocker mounted on the plunger hydrojacks valve clearances. Rocker transmit traffic on the valves through the rollers with needle bearings. Timing is performed by the crankshaft through a chain. The oil pump is located in the front cover of the cylinder and is driven directly by the crankshaft. Components and circuits Engine oil Preparations Before performing any maintenance on the engine, clean the engine compartment and the outer surfaces of the power unit with a special solvent. Such treatment would avoid getting dirt into the engine. In case of need, determined by the nature of the work, the hood can be removed in order to ensure freedom of access to serviceable components (see chap. Body). To avoid accidental damage to paintwork cover your car fenders special cases or old blankets. Excessive consumption of motor oil can be regarded as a signal of the need for checking the status of piston rings, valve stem seals and / or valve guides. Naturally, one should first make sure that no oil loss associated with the development of its external leakage. Check compression (see. Section Checking compression pressure) to determine the general condition of the engine. Loss of power developed, infringement of stability of turns, excessive noise valve mechanism and increased fuel consumption are usually quite characteristic signs of having to perform overhaul of the engine, particularly when these factors are at work. If the execution of the full range of options will not help troubleshoot problems, the only way out is to conduct general mechanical work to rebuild the engine. Overhaul of the power unit includes the restoration of all of its operating parameters to the level characteristic for the new engine. During overhaul necessarily replacing piston rings and cylinder bores for restoration (groove and / or honing). Usually you are replacing main and connecting rod bearings of the crankshaft, if necessary, can be done to restore its groove and necks. Compulsory service is performed valves whose state at the time of the need to perform engine overhaul almost certainly leaves much to be desired. In parallel to the general repair of the power unit is usually performed as the refurbishment of starter and generator. Overhaul of the engine does not require a high performer training, but takes a lot of time. It is the refusal of the plan to use the car for at least two weeks, especially when the need of recourse to the machine shop to meet the individual recovery. Most of the work can be performed using a conventional set of plumbing tools, but some tests to determine the suitability of individual components for further use require the use of precision measuring equipment. In case of doubt, seek professional help SRT. | Do not forget that the decisive factor in the question of the appropriateness of an engine overhaul is a condition of the block of cylinders it. Often, cheaper and more reliable is to replace the worn out engine restored. |
In conclusion, it can be seen that all efforts to implement the refurbishment of worn components will be wasted by careless attitude to demand observance of cleanliness at the assembly unit.
