Transfer case

Carburettor models 4.2 l and 3.0 l

All models are equipped with a transfer case TH12A installed in the rear of the train and allows the driver to carry out an immediate front-wheel drive car in the modes of raising or lowering gear. The selection is made using the lever on the wall and connected to the transmission control lever through the transfer case shift shaft. To allow operation of the unit power takeoff (PTO) (if applicable), the selector lever can be moved to the position "N".

Transfer case assembly consists of a front, center and rear housings and includes a rotating roller bearings in the input, the slave and the front output shaft. To avoid loss of lubricant housings they are equipped with seals.

The components of the transfer case
1 - drive chain
2 - bearing
3 - the driven shaft
4 - switching rod
5 - shift fork
6 - Holder
7 - the input shaft
8 - the intermediate shaft
9 - front output shaft

The rotation transmitted from the rear output shaft gear to the input shaft splines. An upshift mode is switched by shifting the sliding sleeve forwards equipped slots, which leads to direct entry into engagement with the driven input shaft. The shift clutch back prints shafts of direct engagement and carries them through the joint gear downshift. When this rotation is transmitted from the input shaft to the gear downshift by the intermediate shaft. Intermediate shaft at both ends equipped with spring-loaded toothed rings to select play.

Front-wheel drive is carried out by introducing into engagement drive sprocket and the driven clutch gear shaft by means of internal splines of the synchronizer sleeve, the mating prongs synchronizer clutch gear. Synchronization is carried out in contact with the cone synchronizer rings on the side of the clutch gear. At this speed the drive sprocket and the gear are compared and smooth switching is achieved. The drive chain is used to transmit rotation from the drive sprocket to the front output shaft.

Models 4.2 liter EFI

The transfer case is different from the above TH12A lack of spring-loaded ring gear, diaphragm spring and distance rings on the rear end of the intermediate shaft. On models of release since December 1992 and there is no lock ring and spacer ring at the front end of the intermediate shaft (see. Accompanying illustration) - removal from 10.91 components are marked * Addressed to 12.91 - #.
1 - toothed ring
1 * - toothed ring
2 - distance ring
# 2 - distance ring
2 * - distance ring
# 3 - a lock ring
4 - the bearing
5 - Belleville spring
5 * - diaphragm spring
6 - the intermediate shaft
7 - an adjusting washer

Since August 1995 it has been eliminated spacer on the front end of the input shaft and the spacer ring near the central bearing of the driven shaft.

Transfer case maintenance procedures are the same for all models.
