Checking automatic transmission fluid
Twice a year or every 10,000 kilometers (whichever comes first) | Using a transmission fluid other than that indicated in the Specifications, can lead to disturbances in the transmission or its failure. |
The fluid level must be carefully maintained AT. The disadvantage of the liquid may cause the transmission to become detached or to interrupt transmission of the rotation to the driving wheels, while the overflow fluid can result in the loss as a result of foaming. Both can cause damage to the transmission. Since transmission fluid expands when heated, its level must be measured when it is warm, t. E., At normal operating temperature. If the vehicle has just passed more than 32 km, it can be assumed that the transmission fluid is warm enough. The level of transmission fluid can also be measured in a cold condition. If the vehicle has more than five hours, and the liquid has a temperature close to room temperature (r. E. 20 ? C), cold fluid can be considered. However, better and more accurately measure the level of warm liquid. | The results of measuring the level of the transmission fluid can not be considered sufficiently accurate if the car has just passed a great distance at high speeds, operated in hot weather conditions in busy city traffic or used for towing a trailer. In this case, wait for about 30 minutes until the temperature of the transmission. |
| - Immediately after the trip by car, park it on level ground, cock a lay brake and start the engine to idle. Depress the brake pedal and spend the selector lever through all positions, start and finish at the "P" (Park).
- The filler pipe and dipstick transmission fluid in the back left corner of the engine compartment.
- When idling the engine, remove the dipstick from the filler tube, wipe it dry with a clean cloth, dip back into the tube until the end, pull out and determine the level of the liquid.
| The probe measure the level of automatic transmission fluid (arrow) is located at the left side of the bulkhead in the engine compartment. |
- The fluid level should be between the two marks on the dipstick. If it is lower than it should be, add specified in the Specifications of the liquid through the filler tube - use a clean funnel, preferably with a fine strainer to prevent splashing.
| Hot transmission fluid level should be maintained between the two notches on the dipstick, preferably closer to the top of them. |
| When refilling, be careful, trying not to bring dirt into the transmission. |
- Add a transmission only the amount of liquid required to achieve a specified level. From the bottom to the top mark on the dipstick requires approximately 0.5 liters of hot liquid, so its a little top up and check each time until the desired level.
- Status is determined simultaneously with the fluid level check. If the liquid is black or dark red-brown color or burnt smell, it should be replaced (see. Section Transmission Fluid Replacement). If you are uncertain about the condition of the liquid, buy new fluid and compare the color and smell of the old.
