Basic information about the car you can get from the marking plate (Fig. 1.1), which is mounted on top of the radiator cross from the right side (the same data, eliminating the mass characteristics are shown on the label in the luggage compartment). It shall include: serial number, seventeen vehicle identification number (VIN), model number, code name the model and engine output, the model of the engine and transmission, the number of colors and accessories, numbers of additional equipment installed on request, the full allowable weight of the vehicle, complete allowable transport weight, the permissible load on the front axle, the permissible load on the rear axle. Seventeen vehicle identification number (VIN), in addition to the marking plates, stamped on the top panel and a motor amplifier has the following structure: WVW AAA BB CD E XXXXXX (WVW - World Index producer); AAA, BB - position filled for the models produced for export to the United States; C - unactuated position; D - model year; E - the manufacturer; XXXXXX - the serial number.

The manufacturing plant, "H" - Hannover; ?�W?� - Wolfsburg; "E" - Emden; "A" - Ingolstadt; ?�N?� - Neckarsulm; "K" - Osnabrück; "B" - Brussels. The engine number 3 (see. Fig. 1.1) is knocked out on the cylinder block (approx. On some machines you can find it also on a sticker on the housing the timing belt). The first three letters in it represent his model. Depending on the engine it is in the following locations: - The petrol engine of 1.4 and 1.6 liters (ABD, APX, APQ, AEX, ABU, AEA, AEE, AFT, AKS, except motor AEK) - on the flywheel; - The gasoline engine 1.6-liter (engine AEK) and vosmiklapannye engines of 1.8 and 2.0 liters (AAM, ANN, ABS, ADZ, ANP, 2E) - in front of the cylinder block below the plane of the articulation head engine; - Petrol shestnadtsatiklapanny engine capacity of 2.0 liters (ABF) - in front of the cylinder over the breather; - Diesel engine of 1.9 liters (1Y, AAZ, 1Z, AFN, AHU) - in front of the cylinder, between the pump and the vacuum pump;
