Checking the oil level in the engine

Engine oil consumption is normal. Oil consumption can be up to 1 liter per 1000 km of running a car. Therefore, you should regularly, preferably at each refueling and before long trips, check the oil level in the crankcase.

Location cover dipstick
Fig. 1.70. Location cover dipstick

Place the dipstick to check the engine oil level in the engine shown in Figure 1.70.
When measuring the level of oil the car should stand horizontally. After stopping the engine, wait a few minutes for oil to drain into the oil pan.
Then, remove the dipstick, wipe it with a clean cloth and insert the probe again until it stops.

Checking the oil level

If the dipstick has a toe (Fig. 1.71), make sure to it that this coincides with the toe of the sock of the guide tube. Otherwise, the measurement results will be wrong - there is a risk of engine failure.
Finally, remove the dipstick again and check the level at which the oil is:
A - If the oil level is in zone A, the oil should not be refilled.
B - If the oil level lies in the zone B, the oil can be topped up. The engine oil is enough if it is level after topping up will be in the zone A.
C - If the oil level is in zone C, or even lower, the oil must be topped up. It is quite possible that the oil level after topping the mark was in the zone B.
The oil level in any case should not be higher than the area A.
The special conditions of the engine, for example, during prolonged driving (for 10-12 hours), the oil level should be possible to keep the level in the zone A, but not higher.

Topping up the engine oil

Oil filler plug
Fig. 1.72. Oil filler plug

Remove the fuel cap (Fig. 1.72).
Fill a small amount of oil.
Wait a few minutes and check the oil level. Normally, if the oil level is in area B, more oil should not be topped up, or can be poured.
The oil level in any case should not be higher than the area A.
Otherwise, the oil will enter the crankcase ventilation system and the exhaust gases discharged into the atmosphere. On vehicles equipped with a catalytic converter, the oil may combust in the catalytic converter and damage it.
Carefully close the filler plug and insert the dipstick to failure. Otherwise, when the engine oil may be ejected.
