Checking freewheel (backlash) of the steering wheel

Check the play of the steering wheel on the car mounted on a flat slip coating. The backlash should not exceed 5 ?�. For the steering wheel, an outer diameter of 380 mm, the clearance should not exceed 16-18 mm. You will need: a ruler, chalk (or wire) for the application of labels. 1. Place the front wheels in a position corresponding to rectilinear movement of the car. | | 2. 4. In this position, put on the steering wheel rim a second label (tighten the wire). 5. Measure the distance between the rim labels. It should be no larger than the calculated value. If the distance (a free wheeling of a steering wheel) is greater than necessary to establish the cause and fix it.
