Replacing a windscreen
The windshield is glued into the opening of the body, so to replace it purchase one of the commercially available kits for gluing windshield. You will need: a flat-blade screwdriver, a set of glass bonding, steel strings, sharp knife.
NOTES The following describes how to install the glass using one of the commercially available kits, so the thickness of the seam and some other parameters may differ from the data specified in the instructions for the other sets of glass bonding various manufacturers. In this regard, when performing this operation, guided by the instructions in the kit you purchased. It looks like a set for glass bonding. It consists of a tube of glue, the tip of the tube, the activator / primer and cleaner. |
1. Lower the glass front doors. |
HELPFUL ADVICE To protect the paint surface of the body from scratches and damage close any available material (eg cloth) of the surface of the body around the perimeter of the windshield. |
5. Remove the rubber edging windscreen and thoroughly clean it. If the border is damaged or lost elasticity, replace it. |
| 6. Pierce the glue line pointed tool (eg an awl) into the hole and pull the string (for example, capturing a string pliers). |
HELPFUL ADVICE For the convenience of further work on the ends of the strings can be attached wrenches, which will serve as handles. |
A WARNING Do not touch the edge of the steel strings of a windscreen or flanging of the body. |
NOTE To remove the glued glass is convenient to use steel strings. |
7. Saw string glue line around the perimeter of the glass (for this operation, you will need an assistant). |
8. Remove the glass from the car. |
A WARNING Use caution when working with glass. Damaged glass can suddenly collapse. |
9. Cut off the old stitch, leaving a thin layer of glue (1.0-2.0 mm). |
10. Install the edging on the new glass. |
| | 11. Apply activator / cleaner on the edge of the glass and the window opening around the perimeter. | 12. Apply primer on the perimeter of the glass and the window opening. Do not apply primer on the remains of old glue! |
13. evenly apply glue to the opening window (thickness 0.5 cm) around the perimeter of the glass. |
14. Replace glass assembly with piping on the car, center it with respect to the opening, maintaining a uniform gap by means of stops on the perimeter of the window. Press and fix the glass masking tape to prevent it from moving in the opening. Period glue polymerization is at least two to three hours. During this time, the car should not be subjected to any external influences. Even sharp closing of the door may lead to an increase in air pressure in the cabin and, as a consequence, separation of the glass. Operation of the vehicle after gluing the glass is desirable to start no earlier than 24 hours. |
15. Install all removed parts in reverse order of removal. |
