Check
Start the engine. Increase the engine speed to 2500 min-1 and let the engine run in this mode for about three minutes. Leave the engine idling. Insert the probe device for measuring the concentration of the CO / CH in the exhaust gases in the exhaust pipe to a depth of at least 40 cm. Immediately check the readings to measure the concentration of CO / CH in the exhaust gas with the engine idling and / or engine speed 2500 min -1.
NOTE When measuring the concentration of CO / CH in the exhaust gases at high engine speeds the engine speed value of the motor must comply with the requirements of the legislation of the country where the vehicle is operated, and may differ from that indicated in the description of the verification procedure (2500 min -1). |
If the concentration of the CO / CH in the exhaust gases of the engine does not meet the legal requirements for emissions, it is necessary to find out the cause of this discrepancy and correct it. Procedure for finding the causes of the increased content of CO / CH in the exhaust gases is given below. In the normal content of CO in the exhaust gases, and high content of CH (may occur as irregular operation of the engine at idle) make the following checks (checks should be made in the order in which they are listed): - Check the ignition system of the engine (correct installation of the ignition timing, the state of the spark plug: operation, the gap between the electrodes); - Check the clearance in the valve mechanism; - Check for leaks (closed) via the intake and exhaust valves; - Check the condition of the cylinder-piston engine. With reduced CO content in the exhaust gases, and high content of CH (may occur as irregular operation of the engine at idle and the instability of the readings in the measurement of CH) make the following checks (checks should be made in the order in which they are listed): - Check for air leaks in the intake system - in the crankcase ventilation, in the compounds of the intake manifold, in the compounds of the receiver, in the compounds of the throttle valve, through the regulator of idling; - Check for air leaks through the hose connections leaks brake booster; - Check the fuel injection system (with the engine at a lean air-fuel mixture may be misfiring (with a working ignition system), which leads to increased concentration in the exhaust gases unburned hydrocarbons (CH)). When elevated levels of CO in the exhaust gases, and high content of CH (may occur as irregular operation of the engine at idle and the black smoke from the exhaust pipe) make the following checks (checks should be made in the order in which they are listed): - Check the engine air filter; - Check the idle speed regulation; - Check the fuel injection system components: fuel pressure regulator, coolant temperature sensor, electronic control fuel injection systems, fuel injectors, throttle position sensor, air flow sensor.
