Fluid level and its replacement

Fluid level may vary depending on its temperature. On the dipstick to check the level applied two labels, one for a temperature of 30 ? C (cold) and the other for 80 ? C (hot). On the other hand the probe labels match the temperature scale Fahrenheit. Norma position corresponds to the level of the working fluid between the marks Min and Max. To fill the used fluid for automatic transmissions (ATF), and recommended Dexron II. The volume of the working fluid poured - 6.2 liters. When checking the fluid level should be particularly clean. Contact with even small foreign particles can cause serious damage. To clean the probe only use lint-free cloth.
The liquid is poured through the hole of the probe with the engine running. When the parking brake and brake pedal alternately move the selector lever to all positions. Finally, transfer the selector lever to P and check the fluid level again.

Drain holes in the torque converter

To replace the old working fluid must first be drained through the two holes in different locations. The plug of one of them is located in the housing and is shown in Fig. 343. Another screwed into the converter. To access it, you need to manually crank the engine as long as the plug is visible in the torque converter housing bore, as shown in Fig. 344.
When replacing working fluid, proceed as follows:
- Take a short trip by car to the liquid warmed up, but not too hot;
- To establish the car on supports and substitute capacity of about 6 liters under the gearbox;
- Allen unscrew the plug out of the drain hole in the gearbox housing and allow the liquid to merge. It is important that the liquid is not too hot. Feel Carter: If it is very hot - wait a while until the crankcase before you can touch his hand. After draining the fluid, check the O-ring plugs and replace if necessary. Then wrap plug and tighten to 14 Nm;
- Crank the engine by setting the head on the crankshaft pulley bolt until you can access the drain plug in the torque converter. Hexagons unscrew the plug and wait until the liquid is drained. Then wrap the plug to 16 Nm. O-ring, replace if necessary;
- Fill in the manual recommended fluid. The above amount does not go down completely, because the box is part of the old fluid. Therefore, from time to time should be checked at the level of the probe. In conclusion, insert probe to check the fluid level as described previously.
