Troubleshooting Manual Transmission
Transmission and transfer case There have been difficulties in changing gears Not until the end of the clutch squeezed. See. The section devoted to troubleshooting clutch. The transmission gear oil is not the sort. Change the oil in the respective specifications (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual). Worn gear selection. On l models 4.2 remove the top cover and replace the defective components. On models 3.0 l disassemble the transmission assembly for repair. Faulty synchronization mechanism. Overhaul transmission. Check the condition of the friction surfaces of the locking rings and cones for signs of wear or damage (see. Accompanying illustration). When the transmission downshifts issue clang Not until the end of the clutch squeezed. See. The section devoted to troubleshooting clutch. The gearbox is filled gear oil is not the sort. Change the oil (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual). Faulty synchronization mechanism. Overhaul transmission. Check the teeth on the timing gears and locking ring for chipping and wear (see. Accompanying illustration). Excessive axial play gears of the driven shaft and / or countershaft transmission. Disassemble the transmission assembly and replace defective components. There is "falling off" the transmission of the selected transmission Excessive backlash gear lever. Disassemble the lever assembly with the housing and replace worn components. Worn gear selection. On l models 4.2 remove the top cover and replace the defective components. On models 3.0 l disassemble the transmission assembly for repair. Faulty synchronization mechanism. Overhaul transmission. Excessive axial play gears of the driven shaft and / or countershaft transmission. Disassemble the transmission assembly and replace defective components. Worn bearings or the primary output shaft of a transmission. Disassemble the transmission assembly and replace the bearings. | In most cases, this situation is caused by wear and tear or damage to the internal components of the transmission. |
Transmission emits unusual noises in the neutral position Fell transmission oil level. Check the transmission for signs of leaks. Make the necessary corrections, add the required amount of oil required grades. Worn bearings Primary shaft of a transmission. Disassemble the transmission and replace the bearings. | | If the bearings are equipped with a separator and can not be visually inspected, thoroughly wash them in a solvent, lightly grease and slowly rotate manually checking for the presence of jumping or biting points (see. Accompanying illustration). |
|
Countershaft gears transmission have defects in the form of chips or cavities or worn shaft bearings. Overhauled transmission, replacing the damaged components. Excessive axial play of the intermediate shaft of the transmission. Disassemble the transmission and replace the defective components. | To identify noise transmission in neutral depress the clutch with the engine running and turn on any transfer. If the noise disappears, it is the source of transmission. |
Transmission transfer case or emit noise (included any of the forward gears, the vehicle is moving) Fell transmission oil level. Check the transmission for signs of leaks. Make the necessary corrections, add the required amount of oil required grades. | | Traces of oil in the bottom of the drum parking brake indicate the failure of the gland transfer case (see. Accompanying illustration). |

Worn bearings transmission or the transfer case. Disassemble the transmission / transfer case, replace the bearings. Gears have defects in the form of chips and cavities. Overhaul of transmission / transfer case, replacing the damaged components. Excessive axial play of the intermediate shaft transmission or the transfer case. Disassemble the transmission / transfer case, replace defective components. Difficult switching transfer case Worn components of the transfer case switch or weakened their landing. Tighten fittings or replace faulty components. Worn splines of the hub and clutch shift up / down transmission. Perform overhaul of the transfer case. Damaged or worn splines on the hub gearing up / down transmission or the input (primary) shaft. Overhaul of the transfer case. Difficult including all-wheel drive mode Worn components of the transfer case switch or weakened their landing. Tighten fittings or replace faulty components. Worn components synchro-wheel drive mode. Overhaul of the transfer case. Worn or damaged synchronizer teeth sprocket wheel drive mode. | Difficulties when the four-wheel drive mode can also be due to differences in tire size front and rear wheels of the vehicle. Ensure proper selection of wheels. If problems with switching to all-wheel drive mode appear only in the cold state, slowing down to a complete stop. |
Drive shafts There is a vibration of the propeller shaft Loose screws and / or bolts propeller shaft. Replace the fasteners, tighten it with demanded effort. Worn universal joints. Check, if necessary, replace. Is bent propeller shaft. Check the shaft runout using the dial gauge plunger type, compare the test result with the permissible values (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual). Balancing broken driveshaft. Check shaft balancing weights. If necessary, balance shaft. There has been a relative misregistration front and rear universal joint shaft. Remove the shaft from sliding joint and align joints. Worn splines sliding joint propeller shaft. Replace the shaft assembly. | | With manual handling Check universal joints and sliding joints for signs of wear (see. Accompanying illustration). If there is excessive beating of the propeller shaft, give fixture and turn the shaft on a half-turn. Re-tighten fasteners and recheck heartbeat. If necessary, replace the shaft. |
|
There is an excessive radial play propeller shaft | Loose bolt / nut fixing the propeller shaft. Replace the fasteners, tighten it with demanded effort. Be sure to track reliability of a tightening of fixture (see. Accompanying illustration). |
Worn universal joints. Check the wear of joints, manipulating them by hand. If necessary, replace. Worn splines sliding joint propeller shaft. Check (by manual manipulation), if necessary, replace the shaft assembly.
Excessive radial play crown (driven) gear. Remove the final drive assembly, adjust the driven gear.
