It is assumed that prior to the operations to the crankshaft toothed pulley belt removed camshaft drive, clutch, flywheel, oil pan, oil seals, oil pump, oil receiver, crankshaft seals with the housing, piston group. If the conditions are not carried out repairs require removal / installation of pistons and connecting rods, is not required to remove the cylinder head and pistons, you just move the piston in the cylinder so that the rods are not in contact with the crankshaft journals.

Before removing the crankshaft, check its axial play. If you have plenty of runout dial gauge, set the dial indicator so that its tip is positioned parallel to the axis of the crankshaft and concerned shaft end. Slide all the way along the axis of the shaft, set the indicator to zero and move the shaft up to the stop in the opposite direction. Record the value of the axial play (Fig. 2.26). Also for measuring the axial play of the crankshaft, you can use a set of planar probes. To do this, move the crankshaft until it stops in the direction of the flywheel, and then probes measure the gap between the cheek main journal number 2 cylinder and main bearing thrust washer (Fig. 2.27). Compare the results obtained with those given in the Table. 2.8 and make a decision about the need to install new or repair of thrust washers.

Removing the crankshaft of the engine block is performed as follows: - Ensure the availability and readability of the markings on the crankshaft bearing caps. The number indicates the position of the bearing housing, if you count from the camshaft drive belt; - Gently release the bolts on the main bearing cap half a turn per pass, as long as they do not get out of hand. Remove the bolts, then detach the cover from the crankcase. Remove the lower main bearing shells and save for later viewing; - Remove the crankshaft of the engine block, taking care not to drop the upper main bearing shells, which may be on the crankshaft. Then remove the remaining upper main bearing shells from the necks of the cylinder block and save for later viewing; - Remove thrust pads on either side of the third root of the neck.
