Setting piston cylinder unit
It is assumed that before this operation, the crankshaft is installed in the engine. As described for the camshaft, check the operating clearance in the connecting rod bearings and compare with those given in the Table. 2.8, then proceed as follows: - Set the connecting rod bearings, as described for indigenous inserts the crankshaft; if this new ear, rinse all remnants of protective grease kerosene, wipe them dry with a lint-free cloth; - Lubricate the mirror cylinder engine, pistons and piston rings with clean engine oil. Put each build "piston-rod" in order on the work surface. On engines that have lower crosshead screws remain in crank, pull on the thread bolts of short lengths of rubber hose or wrap them with insulating tape to protect a mirror of cylinders of the engine during assembly; - Set the rings so that the locks have been displaced by 120 ? relative to each other, and then press them together in the mandrel for the pistons in the cylinder block; - The correct orientation of the piston in the cylinder, with a mandrel carefully insert the assembly "piston-rod" in the cylinder. First, lower the bottom head of a rod, directing it so as not to damage the screws of the bottom head of a rod and cylinder bore; - Set the cylinder so that the piston head is flush with the top of the cylinder; - Make sure that the connecting rod bearing liner is still installed correctly. Liberally grease the crank pin of the crankshaft and both bearing with clean engine oil. Trying not to touch the cylinder bore, the piston connecting rod push down the cylinder, guiding the lower head of the connecting rod to the crank pin. Install the bearing cover of the bottom head of a rod, first tightening the fixing nuts and bolts;

- Always make sure of the correct orientation with respect to the connecting rod bearing caps. In the connecting rod and bearing cap are deepening, close to the interface - these recesses when properly installed should look in the same direction, which is directed arrow on the piston crown. On some engines the lower head of rods equipped with locating pins, offset relative to the center, which are located in holes in the lid bearing arms (Fig. 2.23); - Tighten mounting bolts or nuts bearing on a half-turn in one pass, until reaching the desired moment; - After the entire piston group is installed, manually cranked shaft and check that it rotates freely, without jamming at certain points. Acceptable some resistance, especially if new parts were installed.
