VW T4 is equipped with 3-phase AC generator. Depending on the model and equipment can be installed generators of various capacities. Power indicated on the label on the current generator. A warning If you are installing additional electrical equipment, you must check whether there is enough power generator set. If necessary, install a more powerful generator. The generator is driven by the crankshaft V-belt. The rotor with an excitation winding rotates within a stationary stator windings at a speed twice the speed of the motor.
By graphite brushes, the collector current flowing the field winding excitation to form a magnetic field.
The position of the magnetic field relative to the stator winding changes continuously, the rotation of the rotor, respectively. In the stator winding generates an alternating current.
Because the battery can be charged only with direct current, the alternating current through the diode rectifier is converted to DC. The voltage regulator changes the charging current on and off the excitation current, respectively charging the battery. Simultaneously, the controller maintains a constant operating voltage of about 14 V, regardless of engine speed. Precautions for handling the generator
When working in the electrical system in the engine compartment, always disconnect the earth cable (-) from the battery.
Do not confuse the cable voltage regulator and generator. Before disconnecting the cables mark the tape.
Do not disconnect the battery or voltage regulator with the engine running.
Do not remove the generator when the connected battery.
When carrying out electric welding on the machine, always disconnect the battery.
