Checking the coolant level sensor

The expansion tank is coolant level sensor. This device does not remove the need for regular monitoring level, but is very helpful in case of a sudden drop, for example at the time of the trip.
With the ignition on and the engine stopped, the control lamp in the instrument cluster lights up dimly. At normal coolant when starting the engine light goes out, if the liquid is not enough, on the contrary, it lights brighter.
The warning lamp is connected to the sensor in the expansion tank, the contact is closed float. If the liquid is missing, the contact opens.
If with the ignition control lamp does not light up at all, it might be burned out.
If with the engine running and a normal level of coolant lamp continues to burn - a defective sensor. In this case, disconnect the plug from the sensor light goes out. It is necessary to remove the sensor, check the progress of the float and the pin terminal. If necessary, replace the sensor.
