Service power supply system (fuel injection)

To perform the procedures described below require a pressure gauge with a measuring range of up to 600 kPa, a suitable three-way fitting and hoses.

Before disconnecting any components of the power system, relieve the pressure of fuel!

Dropping the pressure in the supply system

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Take the screws and lift the panel relays the engine compartment adjacent to the battery. Remove the cover and remove the fuel pump fuse 15 A.
  2. Start the engine and operate at idle speed until spontaneous stop. To ensure that a further ten seconds starter.
  3. Switch off the ignition and replace the fuel pump fuse.

Checking the external fuel leaks

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Make sure there is enough fuel in the tank.
  2. In five seconds, switch on the ignition.
  3. Wait thirty seconds and switch on the ignition again for five seconds. This will raise the pressure in the fuel lines of the power system.
  4. Inspect components for signs of leaks, paying particular attention to damper pump, filter and couplings.

Checking fuel pressure

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Relieve pressure in the system and disconnect the wire from the battery.
  2. Disconnect the fuel hose from the fuel line.
  3. With length of the fuel hose and secure clamps install a three-way union between the fuel hose and the fuel line.
  1. Connect to the free branch fitting gauge with a measuring range of up to 600 kPa (see. Accompanying illustration). Make sure all connections are able to withstand the expected pressure.
  1. Connect the negative cable to the battery and check the power supply system for signs of external leaks.
  2. Run the engine for three minutes at idle speed and measure fuel pressure - it should be about 235 kPa.

If the engine temperature is above 90 ? C in models of release until October 1994 dilution feed pressure regulator is cut off three minutes after starting to lift the fuel pressure.

  1. If the fuel pressure is not enough, check the patency of the fuel filter and fuel lines. Also check the condition of the fuel pump strainer.
  2. If the pressure is too high, check the connection of vacuum hoses of the pressure regulator and fuel return line patency. On models manufactured before October 1994, connect the vacuum hose directly between the pressure regulator and intake manifold. If now the pressure is back to normal, check the functioning of the control solenoid valve control. If the pressure is still too high, replace the regulator.
  3. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator and make sure pressure is increased to about 294 kPa. If the pressure increases does not happen, replace the regulator.
  4. Connect the vacuum hose to the pressure regulator and shut off the engine. Make sure that the pressure continues to hold for at least five minutes.

At the beginning there may be a slight reduction in pressure. This is normal and should not cause concern.

  1. If the pressure does not hold, proceed as follows:
    1. Clamp the fuel return hose on the pressure regulator. If the pressure drop will stop, replace the regulator.
    2. If the pressure continues to fall, remove the clip from the return hose, and pinch the fuel hose on the fuel filter. If the pressure drop will stop, remove defective fuel pump check valve or replace the pump.
    3. If the pressure still continues to fall, check the injectors for leaks. To do this, remove the engine fuel line to the injectors, without disconnecting the hoses and fuel return, turn on the ignition and carry out an external examination of the injectors.
  2. When completed, relieve the pressure in the power supply and remove the pressure gauge and the three-way union.

Service of the fuel pump

Check

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Perform the checks described in the subsection on the diagnosis of failure to start the engine driving conditions for models of late years of release.
  2. If there is no power at the fuel pump relay and serviceable guard, check the wiring between the relay and the pump, make the necessary repairs.
  3. If the food is served, but the pump does not work, measure the resistance between the green and the red wire and the black wire of the pump. If the measurement result will not 0.5 ohms, replace the pump.

Refitting

Gasoline pump as models combined with 3.0 L of sensor unit fuel consumption. Procedures for removing and installing the unit are described in Part 1 of this Chapter in the section on maintenance of the fuel tank. It should be taken into account only by the fact that before disconnecting the negative cable from the battery, it is necessary to relieve the pressure in the fuel system.

Checking the fuel pump relay

Procedures for removing and checking the fuel pump relay are described in detail in Chapter Onboard electric equipment.

Replacement of the fuel filter

The procedure is described in detail in Chapter Settings and maintenance.

Service fuel pressure regulator

Refitting

Withdrawal

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Relieve the pressure in the fuel system.
  1. Disconnect the regulator from the fuel and vacuum hoses (see. Accompanying illustration).
  1. Give fixing screws and remove the regulator from the fuel line. Discard the O-ring.

Setting

Installation is in the reverse order.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Install new O-ring control.
  2. Track reliability of a tightening of fixture.
  3. Check the power supply system for signs of external fuel leaks.

Service fuel line and fuel injectors

Refitting

Withdrawal

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Relieve the pressure in the fuel system.
  2. Disconnect the negative wire from the battery.
  3. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the pull on the throttle and its bracket.
  4. Loosen the hose clamps, return the retaining bolt and remove the air duct with a silencer with throttle body and the air flow meter.
  5. Disconnect electroconducting from the gauge-switch of the throttle position (TPS), the valve of additional air (AAS) and the compensation device turns of fast idling (FICD).
  6. Drain the coolant, lowering the level below the level of the cooling hoses pumping chamber.
  7. Disconnect the cooling hoses from the pump chamber.
  8. Mark and disconnect the hose from the pump chamber of the vacuum brake booster vacuum hose and the engine ventilation hose.
  9. Give fixing bolts and remove the pump chamber with the gasket from the intake pipe.

Access to three of the fastening bolts of the pump chamber is possible from the intake manifold.

  1. Loosen the hose clamps and remove the gasoline pipe lines from the fuel line.
  2. Disconnect vacuum hose fuel pressure regulator.
  3. Disconnect the electrical wiring from each of the fuel injectors and release clamps clamps the wiring harness on the fuel line.
  4. Give fixing bolts and remove assemblage of the fuel line to the injectors from the car.
  5. Remove the injectors from the highway.

Setting

Installation is in the reverse order.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. It is mandatory to replace the injector O-rings. Before installation grease rings with petroleum jelly.
  2. Fill the cooling system.
  3. Check the power supply system for signs of external fuel leaks.

Check injector circuit

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the fuel injectors.
  2. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals of each of the injectors. If the resistance goes beyond 10 ÷ 14 Ohm, a faulty injector should be replaced.
  3. Plug a lamp-sampler on the LED alternate between the terminals of the electric connector wires of each of the injectors, including with the starter. The lamp should light up. Otherwise, check the condition of the fuse-links near the battery. On models of release between October 1994 and August 1995, check the condition of the fuel pump relay. If the fuses and relays in order, check the condition of the wiring and the ECU. Contact your dealer branch of the manufacturer of the vehicle.
  4. To check the serviceability of functioning injectors perform the following procedures:
    1. Connect the wiring harness to the injectors and start the engine.
    2. When running the engine at idle turns disconnect the wiring from each of the injectors for no more than five seconds. If you disable the injector serviceable engine RPM will decrease with the simultaneous violation of their stability.
    3. If changes in the speed and stability of revolutions does not occur, the corresponding injector is stuck or broken for any other reason its patency. However, before removing the injectors for a detailed inspection and cleaning, check the spark in the spark plug wires.

To clean and check the status of injectors requires special equipment, so the implementation of this work to the employees of dealer branch of the manufacturer of the vehicle.
