Automatic Transmission

general information

Described in this guide vehicles equipped with 4-speed automatic transmission with electronic control RE4R03A and blocks when the overdrive fourth gear rotation converter.

The construction of the transmission models of late years of release (since 1992) with engines of 4.2 liter EFI differs only slight modification of some of the internal components and large dimensions of the converter of rotation.
Selection upshift models late years of release is carried out by means of a push button mounted in the handle of the selector lever. When to press the button to increase the transmission speed is translated into up-fourth gear. When the button is released, the inclusion of the fourth gear is locked. This mode is useful when necessary engine braking or to prevent frequent switching from the third gear to the fourth example when driving in a busy urban cycle.
The electronic control system consists of an electronic control unit (ECU), operates in conjunction with a throttle position sensor (TPS), sensor-switch throttle, engine speed sensor, speed sensor, speed sensor, temperature sensor gear oil, switch power state, the sensor -vyklyuchatelem mode kickdown switch and sensor-start authorization.

In case of refusal of any of the sensors / switches, sensors, ECU includes emergency mode operation AT in which the car can be driven away to a nearby workshop of dealer branch of the manufacturer to carry out professional repairs. At low temperatures, the AT oil temperature sensor prevents the transmission upshifting and locking of the rotation.

The switch controls the power state switching the order of transmission. When the switch to AUTO mission to increase the speed of the vehicle is switched to the fourth gear, which reduces fuel consumption. However, with a sharp acceleration can be warning lamp switch power state, indicating that the change of regime shift transmission in order to increase the efficiency of return of the engine. When the switch is in the POWER, shift the transmission to fourth gear occurs, providing maximum return when engine braking, for example during a steep descent.

The mode switch on the models of late years of release is installed in the central part of the dashboard and lets you switch between three modes: AUTO, POWER and HOLD. POWER mode is used when sharp acceleration or during the steep climb. AUTO position corresponds to normal economical fuel consumption. Setting HOLD mode allows you to keep on the selected transmission gear selector (I, II, III or OVERDRIVE (overdrive)).

Hydraulic transmission fluid is circulated through the oil cooler located in the radiator. The oil cooler is connected to the transmission through the tubes. Transmission fluid level is monitored by the probe located at the right side of the engine compartment.

Transmission is removed from the vehicle assembly after prior removal of the transfer case.

As for detailed diagnostics and overhaul AT requires highly skilled personnel and special equipment, the drafters of the Guidelines recommend that if you have problems than those listed in the section on troubleshooting the vehicle, contact the workshop of dealer branch of the manufacturer.

Procedures for the removal and installation of the transmission assembly (eg for delivery to the workshop for repair or replacement) are described in this chapter.
