Radiator Service
| To avoid scalding when loosening the radiator cap on a hot engine should observe certain precautions. It would be right to turn off the engine and let it cool. Wrap the radiator cap with a cloth and turn it counterclockwise to the first stop first and relieve pressure in the system. Then, finally, remove the cap from the radiator. |
Checking the coolant level | - On the cold engine check the coolant level in the expansion tank of the cooling system. The level must be between the MIN and MAX risks on the reservoir.
- If the fluid level is at or below the MIN mark, add it, bringing the level to the MAX. Remove the radiator cap and make sure the radiator is filled with coolant. If necessary, add.
- Start the engine and check for coolant leaks. If necessary, make the pressure by the radiator in order to determine its suitability for further use and detect leaks microsources.

Draining and refilling | - Remove the radiator cap.
- In the passenger compartment turn the heater controls in position HOT (hot).
- Install the drain plug under the sink receiving container. Remove the drain plug.
- Remove the drain plug of the cylinder below the exhaust manifold at the rear of the engine. On models 3.0 l loosen air discharge tube positioned adjacent the water outlet nozzle in the inlet conduit.
- At the end of the outflow of water, screw the drain plug of the radiator. Do not tighten it too tight.
- Lubricate sealing the drain plug of the cylinder and screw it into place securely tightened.
- Pour in the fresh coolant, is a proper mixture of water and antifreeze (corrosion inhibitor) (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual).
- On models 3.0 l tighten the air release plug.
- When removing the radiator cap, start the engine and gently blow off some coolant as the release of air pockets.
- Screw the radiator cap and wait until the engine warms up to its normal operating temperature, accompanied by the opening of the thermostat. Check the engine for leakage of water.
- Stop the engine and after cooling down again, check the coolant level.
- Add a liquid in a broad tank, bringing its level to the MAX. Check the installation and tightening caps and radiator expansion tank.

Models 4.2 l of late years of release, equipped with fuel injection (EFI) The procedure is virtually identical to that described above for models of early years of release. | The only exception is the presence of the plug on the engine air outlet (on models 3.0 L), which is located in front of the pumping chamber of an air path (see. Accompanying illustration). Thus, 4.2 l EFI need to perform any additional procedures relating to model 3.0 l. |
Withdrawal | - Drain the radiator coolant.
- Disconnect the radiator upper hose and the overflow hose of a broad tank (radiator with associated components is shown in the accompanying illustration).
- On models equipped with a heat-sensitive sensor-switch, disconnect the radiator from the sensor wiring.
- On l models 4.2 disconnect the lower radiator hoses, and ventilation.
- On l models 3.0 disconnect the lower radiator hose from the transfer pipe.
- On models with AT disconnect the hoses from the radiator cooler. Zakuporte hose ends to prevent ingress of dirt and oil cooler in order to minimize loss of the transmission fluid.
- Give bolts of fastening of the top casing of a radiator.
- Release the clips securing the upper housing to the lower radiator and remove the top cover from the car.
- Remove the lower radiator shroud.
- Give bolts of the radiator at the top of the last, and remove the radiator from the vehicle.
| When removing from the car radiator is used for a long time should not leave it blank. It is immersed in a bath radiator with clean water, or simply pour water into it. Otherwise, it may cause overheating of the engine when it starts to operate, due to violation of the circulation in the cooling system due to blockage of internal passages of the radiator dried deposits. |
|
|
Washing and cleaning | - Remove the radiator from the vehicle.
| - Connect the radiator to the inlet of a garden hose and make obratnopotochnuyu flushing the radiator (see. Accompanying illustration). Continue flushing the radiator as long as it does not start from the clean water flows.
|
| If an excessive increase in pressure in the hose or weak water outlet point to a strong violation of patency of internal channels of a radiator that can not be adjusted obratnopotochnoy washing, should be delivered to a radiator reconditioning specialist workshop. |
- Install the heat sink vertically (as it is installed on the vehicle) and rinse the outside on both sides of a stream of water under pressure. To avoid damage to the heat exchanger plates careful not to let the nozzle hose to the radiator closer than 40 ÷ 50 cm. Continue washing until until all dirt deposits removed from the gaps between the heat exchanger plates.
|
|
Setting | - Installation is in the reverse order.
- Get radiator assembly in the engine compartment of the car, making sure that the two rubber-coated guide pins are located correctly on the crossbar.
- Install the heat sink to the working position, and tighten the mounting bolts.
- On models with AT remove the plug from the oil cooler hoses and connect the past to the nipples side radiator tank. Tighten the hose clip.
- Where required, connect the wiring to a heat-sensitive sensor switch.
- Connect the radiator hoses, having tracked correctness of installation of cable ties.
- Fill the cooling system coolant. Start the engine and check for water leaks.
- On models with AT check the transmission fluid level, transmission and check for signs of leakage.
