Service of the fuel pump

To perform the procedures described below require a suitable fuel pressure gauge (manometer) and a three-way union.

L models 3.0

Checking fuel pressure

It is important that during the test the fuel pump was not broken cross-lines and fuel filter. Otherwise, there is a possibility unjustified replacement pump for false measurements.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Install the drain container under the fuel vapor separator.
  1. Disconnect the fuel hose inlet separator illustration) and plug the open end of the fitting connecting it to the separator.
  1. Connect a suitable pressure gauge to the hose and turn on the ignition (turn the key to position ON).
  2. Compare the pressure gauge with the regulatory requirements (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual). If necessary, replace the fuel pump.

Check of serviceability of functioning of the fuel pump

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Check fuses control the fuel pump and the engine located in the mounting block. Burned replace.
  2. The luggage compartment Give fixing screws and remove attachable hooks.
  3. Give fixing screws and remove the trim mounting pad with wings tailgate.
  4. Fold the pad forward and take the screws that secure the access cover. Remove the cover.
  5. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the fuel pump (see. Accompanying illustration).
1 - fuel pump
2 - electric socket
  1. Connect a voltmeter between the red and green (+) and black (-) negative lead near the electrical harness connector. Crank the engine and remove the voltmeter reading.
  2. If the voltmeter detects battery voltage, check continuity between red and green and black wires near the fuel pump electrical connector. If conductivity is absent, replace the fuel pump.
  1. If there is no battery voltage, remove the trim panel for mounting the fuse box and disunite an electric socket of the control unit by the fuel pump (see. Accompanying illustration).
  1. Check for continuity between the black wire and the mass of the body. If conductivity is absent, check the wiring.
  2. Disconnect the S starter.
  3. Turn the ignition (key in position ON) and measure the voltage between the brown (+) wire and the body weight of the body (-). Turn the ignition key to the START position and then check the voltage. If the battery voltage is absent in both cases, check the fuse of the engine and the corresponding wiring.
  4. Turn the key to ON and check the voltage between light green (+) wire and the body weight of the body (-). If the battery voltage is missing, check the condition of the fuse control gasoline pump and associated wiring.
  5. Reconnect the starter S terminal. Connect the electrical connector of the control unit gasoline pump and start the engine. Connect the probe to the white and red (+) wire from the back side of an electric socket and check the voltage between the conductor and the housing body weight (-). If the battery voltage is missing, check the condition of the generator harness.
  6. When the engine is running, connect the probe to the green wire from the back side of an electric socket and check the voltage between the conductor and the housing body weight (-). If the battery voltage is missing, check the condition of the gauge-switch of pressure of oil and associated wiring.
  7. S Disconnect the starter. Turn the ignition switch ON, connect the probe to the green and the red wire to the back of the electric fuel pump connector and check the voltage between the conductor and the housing body weight (-). Turn the key to the START position and then measure the voltage. If the battery voltage is absent in both cases, replace the control unit gasoline pump.
  8. If there is a battery voltage, check the fuel pump wiring.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect the negative wire from the battery.
  2. The luggage compartment Give fixing screws and remove attachable hooks.
  3. Give fixing screws and remove the trim mounting pad with wings tailgate.
  4. Fold the pad forward and take the screws that secure the access cover. Remove the cover.
  5. Disconnect and plug the fuel lines. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  6. Give fixing bolts and remove the fuel pump O-ring from the fuel tank.

Setting

Installation is in the reverse order.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Make sure of serviceability status of the O-ring.
  2. Check the condition of the contacts of an electric socket.

Models 4.2 l

Checking fuel pressure

It is important that during the test the fuel pump was not broken cross-lines and fuel filter. Otherwise, there is a possibility unjustified replacement pump for false measurements.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect the fuel hose from the carburettor.
  2. Disconnect the fuel return hose from the fuel pump and plug the nozzle on the pump.
  3. Turn the three-way fitting successively into the line supplying fuel to the carburetor.
  4. Connect the remaining free branch fitting a suitable fuel pressure gauge (manometer).

Approximately 60 seconds to turn the engine output from the system of air pockets.

  1. Chasing the engine at various speeds, observe the pressure gauge. Compare the results with regulatory requirements (see. Table sizes and adjustments in the end of this manual). If necessary, replace the fuel pump.

Withdrawal

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect the negative wire from the battery.
  2. Label the tubes suitable for gasoline and exhaust from it.
  3. Disconnect fuel hoses from the fuel pump.
  4. Give fixing screws and remove the pump from the insulator and gasket (see. Accompanying illustration).
1 - inlet fitting
2 - petrol pump
3 - lever
4 - return fitting
5 - bolts
6 - outlet connection
7 - insulator
  1. If necessary, check the pump as described below.

Setting

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Installation is in the reverse order.
  2. If necessary, replace the insulator and gasket.

Check of serviceability of functioning of the fuel pump

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the fuel pump.
  2. Lower the pump filled with fuel container and rinse it several times by pressing the lever.
  3. Drain the fuel pump. Lock finger pump inlet fitting and work the lever actuator. Hold the lever in the up position, release your finger - you should hear the air intake.
  4. Pinch the exhaust nozzle and raise the pressure in the pump, having worked as a lever. Pressure must be kept for two to three seconds.
  5. Again lift the pressure as described in the previous section, and then lower the pump into the tank with fuel and check for air leaks.
