Controls automatic transmission shown in Fig. 1.13. Cars Golf III were completed four-speed automatic transmission with electronic control. Automatic offers a choice of economical or sport mode shift. Switching these modes can be carried out on the vehicle is stationary and in motion. In economy mode ("E"), gear changes "up" comes before the "down" - when the engine load becomes the maximum allowable. In the sport mode, higher gears are included at higher engine speeds. Transition to a lower gear takes place at higher engine speeds than at the economy mode. The gear selector lever (1) has seven points: - "R" - parking. In this position, the selector drive wheels are mechanically blocked. This provision shall be permitted only after the vehicle is stopped with prior pressing the lock (2) locking lever. When translating the lever from the "P" in the other, click on the clip holding the car brake pedal; - ?R? - reverse. The selector lever is allowed to transfer to this position and only after a full stop of the car. When translating the lever from position ?N? or ?R? to position ?R?, press the brake pedal and lock the lock lever; - ?N? - neutral. To display the lever from this position at a speed less than 5 km / h and the vehicle is stationary with the ignition, press the brake pedal and lock the lock lever; - ?D? - automatic switching forward gears depending on engine load; - "3" - switch the first, second and third gear. Fourth gear is locked. This mode is recommended in terms of unpaved roads; - "2" - switch the first and second gears. The third and fourth are not used. Use this mode when driving on hills when required to provide substantial power reserves and efficient engine braking; - "1" - the car moves only in first gear. To translate the lever in this position, press the latch lock lever. Use this position only on steep inclines. To force the lower gear, if necessary, then to failure of the accelerator pedal (?kick down?). Tow vehicles with automatic transmissions should be by mode ?N? with a speed not exceeding 50 km / h and at a distance of not more than 50 km. At large distances recommended towing by partial loading only the front wheels, as when towing with the rear wheels hanging from the rotation of the planetary gear transmission in the opposite they are very easily damaged.
