Checking the battery
Visual inspection Be sure to check before measurements structural condition, findings and tightened battery
ATTENTION If the battery is not secured properly, it may be damaged. Shaking shorten the life of the battery, there is a possibility of damaging the grid plates. In addition, the mounting bracket may damage the battery casing. Check the battery is mounted on, if necessary, tighten the fixing bolt proper torque. |
Check the battery indicator The indicator indicates the level of the electrolyte and the degree of charge of the battery. Battery indicator There are two versions. - Requires little maintenance; - Maintenance-free.
NOTE Since the indicator is only one bank, its readings relate only to the bank. Accurate assessment of the degree of battery discharge is only possible by testing under load. |
NOTE Especially after charging the battery and when the battery recharged while driving, the indicator may be formed by air bubbles. They lead to a distortion of the color of the indicator. |
The indicator may be in different locations on the battery. There are three different color display. "Green" - the battery has sufficient charge. "Black" - the battery is partially discharged, the battery level <65% or no charge. The colorless or yellow - the battery must be replaced.
Checking low-maintenance batteries This battery is "low maintenance", that is required to check the electrolyte level and if necessary top up with distilled water.
Check the electrolyte level
Check the fluid level of labels min / max on the body of the battery (Fig. 7.1). The electrolyte level is normal, it coincides with the tag max. If the electrolyte level is below the mark - add distilled water.
Check the electrolyte level in banks Turn the ignition and all electrical consumers. In the presence of - remove the protective film from the traffic jams jars. Remove the cork cans. Check the level of electrolyte in the battery banks.
Level is correct, if it is on the level of plastic bridges (Fig. 7.2).
NOTE Plastic jumper corresponds to the maximum mark. |
If the electrolyte level is normal, check plugs and O-rings for damage. Replace damaged parts. Close the jars with plugs. If the electrolyte level is below the maximum mark, top up with distilled water.
