Checking the steering and front suspension
Check the status of a steering and front suspension wires in the following order: 1) Check the condition of the steering mechanism, for which: - With wheels, standing on the ground, turning the steering wheel, check the clearance in position for rectilinear motion; - Hung with the wheels, turning the steering wheel all the way left and right, check the availability of high effort on the steering wheel and the absence of background noise. 2) Check the tie rod for the presence of backlash, as follows:
| Fig. 2.80. Checking backlash steering
|
- Push the wheel sharply, holding it in position "3 o'clock" and "9:00" (Fig. 2.80) (wheel in position for straight-line motion);
NOTE The maximum allowable radial clearance - 0.5 mm; |
3) Check the axial clearance in the rail and the inner steering joint, for which: - Push the wheel sharply, holding it in position "3 o'clock" and "9:00";
NOTE The maximum allowable play in the rail - 0.5 mm. The maximum clearance in an internal steering hinge - 0.5 mm. |

|
4) Check the mounting strut and no play (Fig. 2.81), as follows: - Turn the wheel all the way; - Push the wheel sharply, holding it in the position of "6 o'clock", and check the control arm bushings, shock-absorber rod, the upper strut mount; 5) Check the wheel bearings holding the wheel at "6 o'clock", check the clearance; 6) Check the wheel bearings for the presence of ambient noise by turning the wheel by hand; 7) check the technical condition of the track rod, for which: - Check the protective rubber covers of steering draft; - Check the fixing screws against loosening; - Check for damage to the steering rod; - Check for critical wear (tie rod turn around its own axis); - Check the axial play (to compress the hinge sliding pliers).
NOTE The maximum permissible axial clearance - 0.5 mm, the maximum allowable radial clearance - 0.5 mm. |
If you want to immediately eliminate the following faults: - Damage to the protective rubber boot; - Damage to the steering rod; - Worn steering joint; 8) Check the mounting of the steering mechanism and damage rubber protective covers of the steering mechanism; 9) Check the condition of suspension arms and bushes in the absence of backlash and mechanical damage; 10) Check the stabilizer bar check at the front stabilizer bar and its mounting condition of rubber plugs; 11) check the condition of ball joints and rubber protective covers. Damaged protective rubber covers must be replaced immediately;
NOTE The maximum permissible axial clearance - 0.5 mm radial clearance - 0.5 mm |
12) check the mounting and operation of the springs and shock absorbers.
