Starter gasoline engines
Refitting | - Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Disconnect the cable of a drive of a speedometer and gear.
- Disconnect the starter connector and the wire from the plug.
- Remove the screws and remove the starter.
- Installation is performed in reverse order of removal.
Check and replacement of elements of the stator Adjustment of a backlash gear Check of the traction relay of a starter | - Disconnect the starter motor from terminal "M".
| - Additional wires connect the battery terminals to terminals ?S? and ?M?.
- Turn on the ignition, with the starter pinion comes out ahead. If the gear does not extend, replace magnetic switch.
| This test must be completed within 10 seconds, because, otherwise, it may burn out the coil of the traction relay. |
Check keeping winding of the traction relay | | - Disconnect the starter motor from terminal "M".
- Additional wires connect the battery terminals to the terminal ?S? and the body of the traction relay.
| This test must be completed within 10 seconds, because, otherwise, it may burn out the coil of the traction relay. |
- If the gear is left in place, thus retaining damaged winding traction relay and the need to replace the traction relay.
Checking the return plunger traction relay | - Disconnect the starter motor from terminal "M".
- Additional wires connect the battery terminals to terminal M and the housing of the traction relay.
| This test must be completed within 10 seconds, because, otherwise, it may burn out the coil of the traction relay. |
| - Gear starter should move forward. After disconnecting the wires starter pinion must quickly return to the starting position.
Performance tests (idling) | | - To test idle assemble the circuit shown in the figure.
- Install the engine rheostat in a position in which the voltmeter shows voltage of 11.5 V, check with the current consumed by the starter, and make sure the starter shaft rotates easily and smoothly. Current: not more than 60 A.

Gear Freewheel To remove the freewheel to the shaft of the rotor, you must first remove the thrust ring. | Slide the thrust washer to the gear and remove the snap ring. Now thrust ring can be removed from the shaft.
Check rotor winding | | - Ohmmeter check up conductivity between the collector and the rotor. In the presence of conductivity replace the rotor.
| - A special tool, check the rotor winding. If there is a short circuit, replace rotor. If the steel strip is attached to the rotor vibrates, it means that the rotor windings are shorted.
| - Ohmmeter check up conductivity between the segments of the collector. In the absence of conductivity replace the rotor.
Checking the stator coils | | - An ohmmeter check up conductivity of the stator coils. In the absence of conductivity, replace the stator coil.
| - With the coil installed in the body, conduction check between the terminal and the starter coil. In the presence of conductivity, replace the stator coil.
Check brushes | If the brush is worn to the designated limit, replace it.
Check the brush holder | An ohmmeter check up conductivity between each isolated brush and plate. In the presence of conductivity, replace the brush holder.
Checking freewheel | - Check the condition of gear teeth freewheel and, if damaged, replace it. Also check the condition of the teeth of the flywheel.
| - Turn gear. Gear should be free to rotate clockwise and locked when turning clockwise
Replacement brush | - Remove the worn brush, while being careful not to damage the braided wire.
- Sandpaper strip the end of the braided halter, to ensure good contact it with a new brush.
| - Solder braided wire.
Replacing the rear hub | - Before remove the plug, you need to measure the depth of installation.
| - The sleeve may be removed using a stripper, as shown in Fig.
- Install the new plug on previously measured depth.
Fitting the starter | - Install overrunning clutch on the front end of the rotor shaft.
| - Install the thrust washer and snap ring on the front side of the rotor shaft, then move the thrust ring all the way to the spring ring.
| - Installation lever front cover note at its position. If the lever is set on the contrary, the gear will be constantly pushed to the outside and can not work properly.
Switch the ignition lock | Check that the height of the installation, free lift and the gap with the head of a pin and a hole for the pin clutch pedal are within normal limits.
Check the starter relay | Remove the starter relay and check for continuity between the terminals. If the conductivity does not correspond demanded, replace the relay.
Check the ignition switch lock | Check for continuity between the terminals switch the ignition lock.
