The first start of the engine after major repairs

When you first start the engine after major repairs need to have a fire extinguisher.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Once the engine is installed in a vehicle, check the level of the motor oil and coolant.
  2. When removing the spark plugs and the disabled temporarily ignition (Section Checking compression pressure in the cylinder) turn the engine to raise the oil pressure gauge or corroborated by turning off the control lamp.
  3. Install the spark plug, connect it to the spark plug wires and enter into force ignition system (Section Checking compression pressure in the cylinders).
  4. Start the engine. It may take some time for pressure build-up in the power system, but the start should not cause particular difficulties.

In case of popping in the carburetor or throttle body, recheck the installation timing and ignition timing.

  1. After starting the engine should wait for it to warm up to normal operating temperature. Do not increase the engine speed up turns of fast idling as long as the pump over and begin to run silently hydraulic tappets (about five minutes).
  2. While the engine is warming up, check carefully for signs of leaks of fuel, oil and coolant. If during the overhaul set new camshaft and tappets, the engine must be running at idle speed for at least 15 minutes (watch for indications of temperature meter - it is necessary for the running of the cams and tappets.
  3. Stop the engine and recheck the oil and coolant levels.
  4. Travel by car in an area with weak traffic and disperse it at full throttle on the speed of 50 km / h (30 miles / hour) to a speed of 80 km / h (50 miles / h), and then again reduce your speed to 50 km / h, closing the damper (throttle). Repeat 10 - 12 times. This ensures that shrinkage of piston rings and proper running-in of the walls of the cylinders. Again, make sure there is no leakage of oil and coolant.
  5. The first 800 km (500 miles) as often as possible, check the motor oil level and try not to disperse the car to higher speeds. Moderate consumption of oil during engine break is normal.
  6. After about 3200 km (2000 miles), change the engine oil and oil filter.
  7. The next few hundreds of kilometers / miles drive the vehicle normally. Do not try to spare the engine, but do not overload it.
  8. After 3200 km (2000 miles) again, change the engine oil and oil filter and the engine can be considered run-in.
