Check and replacement of spark plugs, check the status of high-voltage wires (petrol models)

Refer to the materials appropriate section Systems of an electric motor.

Replace the spark plugs only in a cold or slightly warm engine. Screwing out candles on a hot engine associated with the risk of damage to the thread in the alloy head (s) of the cylinder.

Replacement of spark plugs, depending on type, must be performed every 96,000 km or 160 000 km. Before you start, prepare all the necessary tools (some manufacturers of spark plugs deliver special tools to measure the clearance of plugs)

  • Candlestick key 16 mm, for example, HAZET 900AKF. Mercedes-Benz service stations are used for this purpose a candle key 3122V;
  • Additionally, it is recommended to buy special pincers, for example, HAZET 1849 which facilitate turning away the candles. Mercedes-Benz uses a key for this installation 3277A;
  • Replacement spark plugs (the number of cylinders) - see. Specifications.

Details of installation of spark plugs on petrol engines

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. The adjustment of electrode gap on the spark plugs should be carried out immediately prior to screwing.

Be sure to match the type of candles purchased motor car!

  1. Wait until the cooling of the engine, - you can use your free time to check the status of candles and measure their inter-electrode gap.

On the new candles electrode gap is usually already set correctly at the factory.

  1. Check spark plug gap is produced by introducing into the space between the electrodes candles corresponding thickness probe of special wire gauge, - probe should only lightly touch each electrode. If necessary, appropriately bend the bent portion of the electrode by means of knurled knob fitted.

When adjusting the spark gap bends only the base electrode weight, without affecting the end. When the electrode mass is offset relative to the central electrode, adjust its position by the same controller.

In no case do not try to correct the position of the center electrode!

  1. Remove the upper section of the air cleaner (see chap. Power supply system and exhaust).
  2. Disconnect the spark plug wiring explosives.
  3. Remove the ignition coil (T1 / 4) (see chap. Systems of an electric motor) and remove the spark plug (R4).
  4. Rate twisted candles from the engine map states (see. Photographic insert in Chapter Systems of an electric motor). According to the analysis of the appearance of the exhaust spark can assess the overall condition of the engine.
  5. Assess the porcelain insulators candles - Candle in detecting cracks should be replaced.
  6. If any signs of damage to the thread plug has to be replaced.

Produced a special tool to check the status of the threaded portion of the spark plugs, usually supplied remnaborov (eg BERU).

  1. With the drill bit may be passed damaged threaded hole in the cylinder head, which for this purpose does not require dismantling). After that, the head of a special set.
  2. Before screwing the candle lightly grease its carving part of a copper antiprihvatyvayuschim composition. Fingers Loosely candle, placing it in a receiving hole in the niche, then tighten with a spark plug wrench, possibly equipped with a torque meter (cm. Specifications).

To avoid skewing the candles when screwing pull on its tail a small segment of the fuel hose, which will act as a universal joint, as in the case of misalignment to easily scrolled candle, thus preventing the possibility of damage to the thread.

  1. Replace the ignition coil (T1 / 4) (see chap. Systems of an electric motor).
  2. Before connecting to the spark of high voltage (IV) of the wire (models with separate coils) carefully check the last check for damage, signs of corrosion of the contact. Measure the resistance of the resistive wire - if the result of measurement exceeds the value of 30 ohm / meter, replace the wires attached.
  3. Progressive rotation firmly plant the tip of the wire to the screw in the cylinder head candle.
  4. Operating in a similar manner, connect the wiring to the rest of the candles, - try not to mix up the order of igniting Ania.
