Check the power supply system, replacement of the fuel filter
| Gasoline is highly flammable in, so when working with any components of the fuel system must take special precautions! Do not smoke, and do not go near the place of work with open flames or unprotected moving the shade. Do not perform such work in the garages equipped with heaters powered by natural gas (such as water heater, dryer, etc.)! The working area should be well ventilated. If any gasoline spills on your skin, immediately rinse it off with soap and water. When carrying out any work on the fuel system put on goggles and keep a fire extinguisher. In the event of spillage immediately wipe the puddle of gasoline, but do not hold the rags impregnated with gasoline in places where there is a risk of ignition it! |
Checking System | - When the smell of gasoline during movement or after the vehicle has stood in the sun, you should immediately check the condition of the entire fuel system.
- Remove the fuel tank cap and check for damage and signs of corrosion. Evaluate the condition of the sealing element of the cover. Defective components replace.
- Inspect the supply line and return fuel for cracks and deformations. Assess the reliability of a tightening of compression fittings in the fuel distribution manifold and integrated fuel filter.
- In order to ensure access to certain components of the power system, such as a fuel tank and separate fuel lines laid under the bottom of the car must first post above the ground (see. The relevant section in the Introduction).
- Hung out the car, check the fuel tank and the filler neck for the presence of holes, cracks and other damages. Particular attention should be paid to the junction of the neck with a tank. Sometimes fuel leaks occur due to attenuation of the neck fixing clamps, or because of aging of the rubber, of which the neck is made. Carefully review the state of the elements of fastening of the fuel tank, if necessary, make appropriate corrections.
| In no case do not try to repair the independent exercise of the fuel tank (except for the replacement of its rubber components) - remember that contact contained in the fuel tank vapors with open flames of a gas burner inevitably leads to inflammation of the past! |
- Carefully check the reliability of a tightening of all compression fittings Fuel hoses and metal lines coming from the tank. Make sure there is no deformation and aging of materials hoses. Replace defective components.

Replacement filter Petrol models Details of the installation of the fuel filter on petrol models
| - Open the cover of the fuel tank in order to equalize the pressure therein to atmospheric.
- Use the special clamp to pinch the fuel hoses.
- Remove banjo bolt couplings (6).
- Loosen the screws (2).
- Remove the assembly from the rubber pads of the support (7) and release of the clamp (3) the fuel filter (5).
- Remove the old filter from the inlet fuel line (1) and replacing the O-ring, connect it to the new filter.
- When installing a new filter, make sure that the plastic coupling performed on both sides of the clamp (3), - otherwise, increases the risk of galvanic corrosion.
| The arrow on the filter must point in the direction of fuel flow. |
- The further installation is made in the reverse order of dismantle of components.
- Finally, start the engine and check the corresponding components of the fuel path for signs of leaks, if necessary, tighten the fasteners.

Diesel models - replacement filters, removing moisture and air Full-flow fuel filter G270 CDI (M612) Details of installation of full flow fuel filter on diesel models equipped with motor M612 (G270 CDI)
| - Remove the trim panel of the cylinder head.
- Disconnect the fuel filter (3) an inlet (1) and exhaust (2) Fuel line - prepare removable fixing collars.
- If the filter is removed, together with mounting clamp (6), loosen the screws (4) and slightly lift the fuel cooler (5).
- Loosen the clamping screw fastening clamp (6) and remove the fuel filter (70) or - if required - the appropriate release fasteners and remove the filter assembly from the clamp.
- Installation is in the reverse order - before starting the engine filter must be filled with fuel and the low-pressure fuel path purged (see. Section Bleeding circuit low pressure fuel path).
- Finally, start the engine and check the fuel system for signs of leaks. If necessary, make appropriate corrections.

G400 CDI (M628) Details of installation of full flow fuel filter on diesel models equipped with motor M628 (G400 CDI) | - Open the hood and fix it in an upright position.
- Remove the air cleaner assembly (1) (see chap. Power supply system and exhaust).
- Disconnect the fuel filter (70) inlet (70/1) and an outlet (70/2) fuel line - prepare removable fixing collars.
- Loosen the clamping screw mounting bracket (3) and remove the fuel filter (70) or - if required - Remove the bolts (2) and remove the filter assembly from the clamp.
- Installation is in the reverse order.
- Finally, start the engine and check the fuel system for signs of leaks. If necessary, make appropriate corrections.

Preliminary fuel filter with a sump, - the removal of sludge and replacement of the filter element | Replacing the fuel preliminary filter should be carried out simultaneously with the replacement of full-flow filter (See above.)! |
Details of the pre-installation of the fuel filter (diesel models) The design of the preliminary fuel filter (diesel models)
| - Full flow, replace the fuel filter (see. Above).
- Turn out fixing bolts and remove the protective shield (1).
- Pull on the drain valve (2) hose diameter of about 8 mm.
- Loosen the bleed valve (2) and pour into the prepared container of water-fuel mixture.
- Disconnect the connector (3).
- Remove the cover (4) drier - Prepare the replacement O-ring.
- Remove the cover (4) element (5).
- Installation is in the reverse order.
- On models equipped with engine series 612, do not forget to conclude blow low-pressure fuel path (see chap. Power supply system and exhaust).

|
Venting | - If the engine is stopped due to completely empty the fuel tank after refueling is necessary to remove air from the system power supply. To do this for no more than 60 seconds without interruption run the engine until it starts to work steadily.
