Checking the valve timing

Checking procedure
Remove the air filter.
Remove the EGR valve and remove the camshaft cover.
Remove the spark plug of the first cylinder. To do this, use a puller and a candle key.

Adapter Installation and indicator
Fig. 2.33. Adapter Installation and indicator

Screw adapter for dial gauge fully into the spark plug hole (Fig. 2.33).
Insert the dial gauge with an extension to the stop and press it with a nut.
Scroll crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation before TDC of the first cylinder. Note the position of the small arrow dial indicator.

Holes in the camshafts
Fig. 2.34. Holes in the camshafts

Openings in the camshafts should be as shown in Figure 2.34. If necessary, scroll the crankshaft another one turn (360 ?).

NOTE
If the crankshaft was scrolled further TDC more than 0.01 mm, it should once again turn against the direction of rotation of the motor by about 45 ?. Finally, bring the crankshaft in the direction of rotation of the engine at TDC of the first cylinder.

Tolerance of the TDC of the first cylinder ? 0,01 mm.
Insert the lock into the holes in the camshaft camshafts until it stops.

Lock the camshaft
Fig. 2.35. Lock the camshaft

The locking pins 1 shall enter in the holes 2. Mark ?TOP? 3 must be visible from above (Fig. 2.35).
If the cam-lock is not included in the holes in the camshafts to the end, the reason is the wrong timing and should adjust.
Valve timing is correct, if the camshaft retainer inserted into the holes until it stops.
Further installation is performed in reverse order.
Replace the O-ring caps camshafts and oil them before installing.
Install the EGR valve.
