Removing and installing exhaust system
 | If necessary, each of the sections of the exhaust system can be removed individually. |
Petrol models M111 Details of installing the components of the exhaust system on models 163.136 (111 series engine)  | | |
| - Details of installing the components of the exhaust system on models 163.136 (engine series 111) are shown in the illustration, which includes all the links in the text.
- Remove thermofilter (8/1).
- Release the clip (7/2) securing the rear section of the exhaust system, - a collar welded to the connecting pipe section.
- Remove the rear section of the system with a rubber surround (9/1) to evaluate the state of the latter, in case of need make replacement.
- Detach the front section of the exhaust system from the rear.
- Remove the rear section and visually assess the state thermoprotective underbody shields.
- Support the transmission and remove the rear suspension support of the power unit (see chap. Engine).
- Give nuts (11/2) on the support bracket (10), - the nuts must be replaced without fail.
- Remove the front section of the exhaust system with rubber surround (9/1), defective replace the suspensions.
- Remove the screws (11/1) of the flange connection of a reception pipe to the exhaust manifold, - if necessary, replace the manifold nuts.
- Remove the front section of the assembly with a catalytic converter (158), and visually assess the state thermoprotective underbody shields.
- Installation is in the reverse order.

M112 / 113 (except ML 55 AMG) Details of installing the components of the exhaust system on models with engines of series 112 and 113, except ML 55 AMG  | | |
| - Details of installing the components of the exhaust system on the models equipped with engines of 112 and 113 series (except ML 55 AMG), shown in the illustration, which includes all the links in the text.
- Poddomkratte the front of the car and establish it on props.
- Remove the torsion spring front suspension (see chap. Suspension and steering).
- Disconnect the electrical wiring from the sensors.
- Remove thermofilter (8/1).
- Release clamps (7/2) securing the rear section of the exhaust system.
- Remove the rear section with the suspension (9/1) - defective, replace the suspensions.
- Detach the rear section of the front and pull it out from under the car.
- Visually assess the state thermoprotective bottom screens, replace defective components.
- Give nuts (11/2) securing the front section of the exhaust system - the nuts must be replaced without fail.
- Remove the screws (11/1) flange connection reception pipe from the exhaust manifold, - if necessary, replace the manifold nuts.
- Remove the front section of the assembly with catalytic converters.
- Installation is in the reverse order.

The ML 55 AMG Details of installing the components of the exhaust system on the ML 55 AMG
| - Details of installing the components of the exhaust system on the ML 55 AMG shown in the illustration, which includes all the links in the text.
- Release the clip (1) for the rear section of the exhaust system, - a clamp nut must be replaced without fail.
- Remove the rear section of the assembly with a silencer (2), assess the condition of rubber suspensions (3 and 4), replace the failed component.
- Disconnect from the main muffler (8) ground bus (7).
- Release welded clamps (9) fixing the muffler (8) - Stirrup nuts (13) must be replaced without fail.
- Separate the silencer from the front section of the exhaust system and remove it from under the car - damaged suspensions (10 and 11) Replace.
- Separate from the exhaust manifold and remove the front section of the exhaust system.
- Installation is in the reverse order.

Diesel models M612 Details of installing the components of the exhaust system on models 163.113 (612 series engine)  | | |
| - Details of installing the components of the exhaust system on models 163.113 (engine series 612) are shown in the illustration, which includes all the links in the text.
- Remove the lower section of the soundproofing.
- Remove thermofilter (8/1).
- Release welded to the connecting pipe mounting clamp (7/2), separate rear section (5) of the exhaust system from the front and pull it out from under the car.
- Visually assess the state thermoprotective bottom screens, defective components replace.
- Release the spring connection of the primary attachment to the three-functional catalytic converter (TWC - 111), - sealing cone (6) in the assembly must be replaced without fail.
- Give nuts (3) of the support bracket (2), - the nuts must be replaced without fail.
- Propping up the front section of the exhaust jack otboltite support bracket (2) from the transmission housing.
- Remove the front section of the exhaust system complete with TWC (111) from under the car and visually assess the condition of the bottom of the screen thermoprotective - replace defective components.
- Installation is in the reverse order.

| - Details of installation of the optional package AMG exhaust pipe for all models except the ML 55 AMG shown in the illustration, which includes all the links in the text, - proceed in the order shown in the illustration.
- Remove the exhaust system (see. Above), defective components are replaced.
- Cut the standard exhaust pipe at a distance A = 140 mm from the center of the weld area changes to nozzle diameter (arrow).
- Trim studs hanging rings (arrows).
- Pasted on the cover of the rear bumper in the area of the decorative cover towing eye self-adhesive foil (arrow) taken along its contour cutout in the bottom of the skirt, - exhaust pipe must be free to fit in the recess.
- Treat the cut edges with sandpaper and cover them with lacquer.
- Fasten the rear section of the exhaust nozzle of the purchased package AMG, - overlap mounting bracket must be at least 50 mm.
- Install exhaust system and make sure the discharge nozzle is located parallel to the bottom at a distance of not less than 15 mm below the cut skirt.
