2 - Vehicle Identification Number
| The vehicle identification number (chassis number) is stamped on the rear bulkhead. |
The chassis number is interpreted as follows:

1 - Manufacturer code: VWV = Volkswagen. 2 - Components. 3 - A two-character type code. B = Passat. 4 - Detailed komplektitsiya. 5 - Year of Construction: W = 1998, X = 1999, and so on. D. 6 - Place of manufacture. 7 - Number of chassis.
3 - Number of engine
| On 4-cylinder engines number is located on the left on the cylinder block under the line connector block and cylinder head. |
In the 5- and 6-cylinder engines number is located on the right on the cylinder block under the line connector block and cylinder head. To find the numbers on the 5- and 6-cylinder engines unscrewing fixing the engine casing. Additionally, engine number applied to the barcode sticker on the cover of a gear belt.
