Egnition lock

Engine starting

If your car is equipped with Hyundai manual gearbox, move the gearshift lever into neutral and fully depress the clutch pedal.

If your car is equipped with Hyundai automatic gearbox, move the selector lever to position "P" ("Park").

To start the engine, insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "START" ("Starter"). Release the ignition key immediately after the engine starts. Do not hold the ignition key to position "START" ("Starter") for more than 15 seconds.
A warning

For safety reasons, the motor vehicle can not be started if the selector of an automatic transmission is not in position "P" ("Park") or "N" ("neutral gear") (only for vehicles with automatic transmission).

Key positions in the ignition switch

Key positions in the ignition switch:

1 - LOCK (Lock);
2 - ACC (optional);
3 - ON (Enable);
4 - START (Starter)

A warning

Do not turn off the engine and do not remove the key from the ignition while driving. This will lock the steering wheel, and the car becomes unmanageable.

START ("Starter")

Start up the engine by turning the ignition switch to START. The motor will rotate the starter until you release the key, which he will return to ON. In this position, warning lamp also lights up the brake system to check the lamp. When the ignition key is rotated with difficulty in START position, this may be due to the pressure of the steering shaft to lock the protective device. Spin the key to turning the steering wheel left and right to release the tension on the lock and turn the key.
A warning

Do not hold the ignition key in position "SART" ("Starter") for more than 15 seconds.

ON ("ON")

If the key is in this position, you can check the indicator lights of the car. Thus, even before starting the engine, make sure that all vehicle systems are OK. Once the start up the engine, the ignition key return back to this position and will remain there for the entire time of operation.

If the engine is not running for a long time, do not leave the key in the position ON, because this is accompanied by an unnecessary discharge of the battery.

ACC ("Accessories)

When you turn the key in this position it is possible to include individual car accessories, such as the radio, windshield wipers. The motor will remain off.

LOCK ("Lock")

The shaft of the steering wheel anti-theft device is locked and the steering wheel can not be rotated. So the car is protected from theft. The key from the ignition switch can only be removed in this position. For models equipped with an automatic transmission with the key position as the lever is locked mode dial to "P" (parking).

A warning

To unlock the steering wheel, insert the key into the ignition switch, and turning the steering wheel lightly at the same time, turn the ignition key.
