Check the operation and to replace the coolant temperature sensor

Before proceeding with the procedure wait full cooling of the engine.

Coolant temperature measurement system consists of a temperature measuring device included in the instrument cluster and block temperature sensor mounted on the engine. Some models come with more than one sensor, however, for the temperature indication is used only one of them, usually electrical connector equipped with a single wire. Coolant temperature sensors, transmitting signals to a processor is usually equipped with two wires.

If the meter detects overheating, check the coolant level, then make sure of reliability of fastening of the contacts between the meter and the electrical switch. Check the condition of the fuses.

With the ignition and turn the starter control lamp should burn (check of serviceability of lamps).

If the lamp is not lit, or it is burned out or there is an open circuit. Check the circuit grounding wire between the lamp and the sensor with the ignition (not running for the safety of the engine). If the meter needle is deflected while the entire range of the scale, or the warning lamp lights up, replace the sensor.

Immediately after the engine warning lamp should go off and stay off before the engine overheating. Failure lamp off may be due to short-circuiting in the wire between the lamp and the sensor, sensor failure or a failure of the ignition. Make sure that the system is filled with the required type of cooler. Excessive amounts of water in the mixture may cause lowering the boiling point of the coolant to a value insufficient to activate the sensor.

If the sensor unit to be replaced, simply unscrew it from the engine and replace it with a new. The threaded portion of the new sensor with sealant. Before proceeding to the removal of a defective sensor, make sure that the engine is completely cooled down. When unscrewing the sensor inevitably occur slight loss of coolant - get ready for a gathering of a spilled liquid. After installing a new unit of the sensor, check the coolant level.
