Replacement valve springs, their plates and valve stem seals
| Replacement of broken valve springs and valve stem seals the valve stem does not require removal of the cylinder head. To perform this procedure usually requires two special tools and the compressed air source. Carefully read the materials section and pre-prepare all the necessary materials and tools. If access to a source of compressed air strongly impossible to keep the valve from falling into the cylinders in the course of the procedure can be to use a piece of nylon string. |
| - Remove the cylinder head cover (see section Removing and installing cylinder head cover).
- Remove the spark plug of the cylinder, in which there are defective components. If there is a need to replace the valve stem seals rods all valves, remove all the candles.
- Rotate the crankshaft so that the piston of the corresponding cylinder was in TDC (see. Section Bringing to TDC of the compression stroke of the piston of the first cylinder). If replacing the valve stem seals are subject to the rods of all valves, start with number 1 cylinder valve and serve each of the cylinders in turn. From the cylinder to cylinder proceed in the order of ignition (see. Specifications).
- Screw the adapter into the spark plug hole and connect a hose from the compressed air source. Required type of adapter can be found in any of the shops of automobile accessories.
| Many compressometer come with a threaded attachment, perfectly suited as an adapter for supplying compressed air into the cylinder through the spark plug hole. |
| It looks like screwed into the spark plug hole adapter for supplying compressed air into the cylinder - ask in shops of automobile accessories. |
- Remove the bolts, ball bearings and rocker arm valve cylinder with defective components, then remove the pushrods. If you need to replace the valve stem seals all valves, remove all of the rocker and the rod of pushers (Section Removal, check of a condition and installation of the rockers and bars of pushers).
- Apply the compressed air into the cylinder.
| The air pressure to move the piston can dramatically down, causing sudden cranking. If the transfer of the piston to TDC used a socket wrench and at this point it will be left to put on a bolt screwed into the end of the shaft, it is fraught with injuries. |
- The valves must now be held by air pressure. If the working surfaces of valves and their saddles chamfer will considerably worn, air leaks may make it impossible to hold the valve in the closed position - in this case to resort to alternative methods.
- If access to a source of compressed air is not available, or worn valve seats and their use does not allow them to be to resort to an alternative method of retention valves. Bring the piston to a position about 45 ? before top dead center of the compression stroke, and then thread the length of nylon cord through the spark plug hole into the combustion chamber is completely filled it to them. Make sure that the spark plug hole of the left end of the cord to hang around for a sufficient length of his subsequent recovery. Big face head with collar, rotate the crankshaft in the normal direction until the occurrence of lung resistance turning.
- Plug the holes with rags in the cylinder head near the valve in order to avoid falling into the engine parts and tools, and then tighten the special tool valve spring. Using small needle-nose pliers, remove the magnet or crackers cutting lock.
| Available in two different types of tools for compressing the valve spring without removing the cylinder head from the engine. A tool engages the bottom coils of the spring during rotation of the handle and provides pressure on the spring plate, while the second tool is shown in the figure, it acts as a lever using the fulcrum as a bolt rocker. Both tools work equally well, but the second is a little bit cheaper. |
| - Use of the tool for compressing the valve spring without removing the head from the engine - crackers of the cutting lock can now be extracted from the groove on the valve stem with the help of needle-nose pliers or a magnet (preferably the second).
|
- Remove the plate or swivel bearing spring sleeve (used on some types of valves) and valve spring assembly, then remove the valve stem seal guide sleeve
The components of the valve (release model of recent years have a slight difference) - Put the end of the valve stem rubber bandage or wrap it with tape to prevent accidental dropping of the valve into the combustion chamber, then shut off the air.
| If, instead of compressed air used nylon cord, slightly turn the crankshaft in the opposite direction to normal. |
- Check the valve stem damage. Rotate the valve guide sleeve, trying to detect the presence of the eccentricity of the rod end is a sign of bending the valve.
- Move the valve up and down in the bush. Availability points jamming says the bending of the rod or damage the guide sleeve. In both cases, the head must be removed from the engine for repair.
- Re-apply the air in the cylinder to hold the valve in the closed position, then remove the tape or a rubber band with a rod. If the valve is used to hold the nylon cord, turn the crankshaft in the normal direction until the occurrence of lung resistance to rotation.
- Lubricate the valve stem motor oil, and its end - the assembly of motor lubricant and install a new valve stem seal guide sleeve, pulling him free valve stem until fully seated on the ledge of the sleeve.
| Caps wear extremely carefully to avoid damage to their sharp edges of the grooves for the installation of crackers. |
- Replace the valve spring.
- Install the valve spring plate (or a swivel bearing). Compress a spring and establish crackers of the cutting lock into the groove on the valve stem. To hold crackers in the groove until you release the tool, compress the spring, put on their inner walls a bit of dope.
- Release the spring compresses the tool and make sure of correctness of landing crackers.
- Disconnect the air hose and remove the adapter from the spark plug hole. If you are using a cord, remove it from the cylinder.
- Replace the pushrods, rocker, spherical bearings and bridge brackets (Section Removal, check of a condition and installation of the rockers and bars of pushers).
- Replace the spark plug (s) and connect the ignition spark plug wire (s) (Head of Adjustment and routine maintenance).
- Replace the cylinder head cover (see section Removing and installing cylinder head cover).
- Start the engine and check for oil leaks and the presence of extraneous sounds coming from under the head cover.
